Food Round-up: Comfort food

Food Round-up: Comfort food

Are you sitting comfortably? Preferably with a brew and a blanket over your knees. Well let’s begin – I have a plethora of comforting and warming recipes for you in this month’s Food Roundup. These winter recipes will make you feel ready to launch into wintery days, knowing there are hot, steamy dishes to look forward to at the end of the day.

Sometimes a quick, handy filling snack is just what is called for – Life Belicious shared her Corn Cookies – A type of fritter that will be on the plate in less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

Another snack idea comes from JuggleMum with her Cheese on Toast with an indulgent twist – Don’t forget the Worcestershire Sauce!

Left over potatoes? Don’t waste them – Try Foodie Quine’s magnificent potato crust with her Cheesy Spinach, Mushroom & Potato Crust Pie.

The ultimate in comfort food has to be a dish that you can eat out of the bowl in front of the TV (Don’t judge me, we’ve all been there). Madhouse Family Reviews’ Moroccan Couscous looks just perfect for that – Its jam packed full of vegetables so healthy too.

Speaking of vegetables, I’m loving the colours in All About U blog’s Pumpkin Courgetti – Great use for a spiraliser.

Yet more vegetables, in this Pumpkin, Aubergine & Pea Soup again from All About U blog. A wealth of herbs and spices in this recipe ensure this soup is tasty and dramatic. Serve with chunks of fresh crusty bread.

Banish those winter sniffles with a good dose of spice, JuggleMum’s Jerk Chicken Nachos would be just the remedy. Nachos make a great alternative to heavy potato and pasta dishes and are so much quicker to prepare!

There’s still plenty of baking going on around the blogs – The Christmas Cakes will soon be making appearances but in the meantime enjoy these homely welcoming creations. Claire from life, Ninja Killer Cat has really impressed with her Spiced Tea, Egg Free Chocolate Cake.

How pretty is Julie’s Family Kitchen’s Pistachio & Rosewater Cake – So simple yet effective decoration.

You may not have tried using Mayonnaise as an ingredient in cake but Chez Maximka has a stunning Chocolate Mayo Cake that will tempt you – Sugared Violets & Silver Pearls optional but gorgeous!

Just want individual portions? Why not try Madhouse Family Reviews’ Black Forest Gateau Cupcakes?

Talking about her signature bakes this month is Edinburgh with Kids – She shares her Coffee & Walnut Cake – A great cake for anyone’s repertoire!

We go through hundreds of satsumas at this time of year. Claire Justine is encouraging us to use them creatively in her Sweet and Sour Satsuma & Kiwi Pie. So lovely to see flashes of bright natural colour during these grey winter days.

Our bloggers even thought about the drinks – Susan K Mann shared her Slow Cooker Mulled Wine recipe – Well worth getting your slow cooker out of hibernation for.

Craft Invaders tempted us with the ultimate Christmas Spirit Liqueur, to be drink either on its own or as part of a Christmas Champagne Cocktail. I don’t need asking twice!
