Food Round-up: Gingerbread ideas

I have a bit of an infatuation with Gingerbread. More specifically Gingerbread Men. They are just SO cute and SO festive and SO tasty! They don’t actually even need to be edible as I have a large selection that hang on my Christmas tree, a few that linger on soft furnishings, there may even be clothes and jewellery. I also love the smell of Gingerbread and can be easily led astray by candles, soap, room sprays, shower gels and body lotion. Stick a gingerbread man on and I’m sold. I really am a marketeers dream. We have an annual tradition of festive Gingerbread House baking, building and decorating. Do take a closer look at last years Barn with Silo Gingerbread House. We really need to start planning this years build.

It would seem that I’m not the only one who loves Gingerbread and I was spoiled for choice with delicious dishes to include in this festive roundup. Kat at The Baking Explorer has created the most adorable Gingerbread Cupcakes. The sponge and buttercream are both spiced with ginger and they’re topped with super cute gingerbread men.  For a dairy and egg free alternative take a look at Tinned Tomatoes Vegan Gingerbread Cupcakes with Pineapple Frosting. Not a fan of Christmas Pudding? Baking Queen 74’s Gingerbread Pudding is an ideal alternative. It’s steamed in the slow cooker so will free up space on the hob for your Christmas dishes.

If you fancy making your own Gingerbread Men Janice shares her recipe for Sweet Gingerbread Men and the oh so cute iced faces of Kat’s Vegan Gingerbread Men make them almost too good-looking to eat. I have however fallen head over heels in love with the Christmas Jumper Gingerbread Men at Butcher Baker Baby. The perfect combination of two Christmas favourites and ideal to make with little ones.

Time to take Gingerbread around the world with Norwegian Pepperkaker Biscuits from May at Eat Cook Explore, Spicy Gingerbread with Limoncello Icing from Tin & Thyme and Polish Pierniczki świąteczne Christmas Cookies from Bintu at Recipes from A Pantry. If you want to go for cake rather than biscuit then Gingerbread Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting by Lucy at Supergolden Bakes is a true showstopper or if a Bundt is more your thing (alas I don’t own a tin!) Celery and Cupcakes has a gorgeous sticky Gingerbread Bundt Cake.  I do have plenty of loaf tins and I’m swithering between Jac’s Treacle Gingerbread Loaf and Emma’s Gingerbread Loaf Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting. Decisions Decisions.

Gingerbread Round Up

It would be very wrong of me to say that I’ve saved the best for last but bringing up the rear are my own creations. Gingerbread Men Rocky Road, Gingerbread Biscotti and Gingerbread Men Hot Chocolate Stirrers. Told you I was obsessed!

Wishing you a Very Merry Gingerbread filled Christmas and a Happy 2018. I’ll be back in January with a Veganuary roundup so drop me an email [email protected] with any recipes you’d like me to consider for inclusion.
