We’ve got a real mixed bag on the round-up this month. We’ve got kids leaving school and making good progress in their current school, and an awful lot of growing up and striving for independence.
Tara from Sticky Fingers writes beautifully about her 11 year old son’s bad dreams. Tweens might seem big a lot of the time, but deep down they’re still your babies and sometimes, in the middle of the night, only mum will do.
SATs in year 6 are nothing, are they? Not for Kerrie’s daughter at Wife, Mum, Student Bum. Her moving post shows just how much these exams can affect children. And for what? The results aren’t of any benefit to the kids themselves.
Us Three By the Sea shares a fantastic milestone for her son with us. He’s struggled with school, but she has fought to get him the right education and now he’s really thriving and doing well.
When should children be allowed Facebook? Over at MumofThree World, my 12 year old son has been asking for his own account, but I’m standing my ground until he’s officially allowed it at 13. Do you agree?
Kate on Thin Ice wonders when is the right time to let children play outside on their own? And are things different now she’s moved to a new area? What do you think? I’m sure she’d love to hear your thoughts.
Continuing with the independence theme is Chelsea Mamma. She was worried about letting her 13 year old son go to the beach with his friends for the first time, but it sounds like he coped remarkably well!
It has to happen. Our kids hit their 13th birthdays and they become teenagers. I love this post from mum at Touchline Dad & Mum in the Middle on her son turning 13. It’s such a mixed-up age and her son is a real worrier. With my own son just weeks away from the big 1-3, I recognise so much of what she shares.
Lots of teenage girls hate their appearance, which is so sad. Sharon at Teen Tween Toddle believes over-use of make-up and fake tan make girls believe they can’t be beautiful without these things. So she made a video to prove just how beautiful her daughter is. I must admit I don’t usually have the patience for videos in blogs, but I love this one.
More on teenage girls and body image from Barbie Bieber and Beyond. This fantastic post explains why Emma Watson is the perfect role model for our daughters. But why do we just see endless Kardashians and Miley Cyrus in the media, making young girls think their lives are something to aspire to?
Teenagers are a nightmare to get up in the afternoon morning, aren’t they? I’ve still got this to come, but I love these suggestions from Ojo’s World. Have a read if you want a laugh!
You might believe that teenagers are all troublesome, but not the DD of Tattooed Mummy. Not only does she like testing tents ready for festival season, but she has some wise words for her own mum.
I love this poem from The UnCheshire Wife about her growing boy. Have a read, it’ll make you smile!
Most parents take it for granted that their children are around all the time. But what if you’re an ex-pat and your children still live in the UK? That’s Chicken Ruby’s experience, and I was very interested to read about her travels around the UK with her 15 year old son.
There are so many milestones for babies and toddlers, but what about teenagers? Stressy Mummy shares with us a very moving post about one of those milestones – her teenage son’s very last parents’ evening.
That’s all for this month. If you blog about teens and tweens, feel free to join us and share your links with us next month. Or if you can’t wait that long, please add them to the linky below.
