SEO: Categories

Your categories are your pillars that you build your site around. The old philosophy was that a site should have 5 however, if you can write in those categories regularly then have as many as your site needs. By regularly I mean that over a year your categories should have a reasonable even number of posts. This is where a travel site may focus on continents rather than countries, a food site dessert recipes rather than cheesecakes, pavlovas etc…

Over time, you want to work to replace your category links on your site with hub pages more about that later in this lesson.

As the primary role of these categories is to help you and your reader with organisation and finding similar content if your categories are noindexed then a post can be in as many different categories as you want.
