SEO: Breadcrumbs

Remember back with the URLs I said that they were disappearing from mobile and not really shown. Instead Google is using breadcrumbs to display above the post name.

Breadcrumbs are in built in some themes others you need to add them. They show up and provide a navigation for your reader and are shown in google.

They literally form a trail for your reader to find.

With menu’s “hamburgered” on mobile these are especially useful for your readers landing from search to discover more posts in that category and explore your site.

On the slide above you can see how for tadpole food the top results all show breadcrumbs rather than a URL it’s not been said that it is a ranking factor but it is one that seems to be showing up more and more in search results.

When on mobile it’s easy to see why it’s useful.

If you have a store then it can be used to help your customers find more similar products as well.

On a blog posts it will take the user to the category page and where they can find more similar ideas.

It’s a great way to have more people exploring your site. The longer they spend on your site and the more pages they explore when they land the better google sees it as they don’t bounce back straight away to the search.
