Raising awareness of charities through blogging

charity blog posts sliderIt is great to see so many people raising awareness of charities through blogging.

My absolutely favourite post this month is perhaps not surprising seeing as I am a Yorkshire lass with a liking for our regional pudding. To be serious, I know I take communication for granted with my children and suspect I am not alone in that. Makaton do fabulous work and this post goes to show they will always go the extra mile too for individuals and their families.

It is Breast Cancer Awareness month and rather than pick out an individual’s blog, I am highlighting Breast Cancer Care’s blog which has so much information on breast cancer itself and also how you can support this special

It is Down’s Syndrome Awareness Month in the USA and our own Hayley is encouraging you to link up posts on Down’s Syndrome because the more stories are shared the greater understanding we have and the less isolation there is for families that might need that little bit of extra support and love.

I first became aware of the Teapot Trust when I attended the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards last year. The Trust provides art therapy sessions for children undergoing medical treatment. They have produced a film to encourage children to be less fearful of blood tests.

I love charity shops but I have never taken time to work out just how much I save by visiting Emma highlights how you can dress the family for so much less and help charity at the same time.

Christmas is coming and if you are popping into Argos, why not donate an unwanted toy and get a voucher towards your toy shopping? Joy reminds us that we just have until 25th November to get involved in this campaign.

Fashion Mommy encourages us to get involved with Dettol’s Baby Blanket campaign supporting the Sparks charity. Parents are encouraged to donate their baby blankets which will be washed and given to disadvantaged families. Dettol also give great advice on how to keep baby blankets free from bacteria.

Chris has encouraged us to get involved in a ground-breaking digital storytelling project as part of SightSavers campaign to see cataract operations delivered in some of the poorest parts of the world. There is still time to join her linky and lend your support.

Michelle highlighted the International Day of the Girl and also shared news of her own personal efforts to make a difference.

Whatever you blog about you can perhaps find a little time and space to help a good cause get the word out to potential beneficiaries, donors and volunteers. If this interests you, please join the BritMums Charity Connections group where we post appeals from charities.

Thank you Kate. How wonderful that you give a shout out for Makaton this month AND how coincidental that I took a toy into Argos today for the toy exchange you mention. Keep up the amazing work. H x
