BritMums held their second Coffee Break Google + hangout on Wednesday and after a few technical glitches the conversation really started flowing.
We were talking about social media with Karin Joyce and Jen from BritMums and we were able to get some fantastic top tips from Maggy Woodley creator of Red Ted Art and Penny Alexander creator of Alexander Residence. Here’s the video in case you missed it
There seems to be a bit of confusion over the hangouts that we’d like to clear up so everyone is singing from the same song sheet next Wednesday when we’re talking about Blogging for charity.
Google event
BritMums will send out a Google event invitation to everyone who has circled them. In order to receive this initial invitation make sure you have circled BritMums on your Google + profile. Here is BritMums Google + profile click on it and add us to your circles now so you’ll always be up to date with us.
Once you’ve received this event you can decide to respond with yes, no or maybe depending on your commitments and the invite will be kept in your event file which you can click on on the left hand side of the screen.
Come Wednesday the speakers will have been contacted and invited to join the hangout a few minutes before going on air and at 10.15, lippy on and hair in place the moderator, presses the ‘ON AIR’ button and the hangout can then be seen live.
How to watch the hangout
The invite page will not suddenly go live, this is purely an invitation to the event. The Hangout can be viewed on the BritMums profile page and the moderator will copy the link and paste it onto the event page so everyone can click to watch.
Viewers may listen to these 15 minute conversations but can also interact. You can use your chat box to send a message to us during the hangout, a question which may be put to the speakers, or you can join in the discussion in which case you will appear on screen alongside the others.
Joining in the hangout
To be able to join in, you need to be invited by the moderator and they can only do that if they know you are there, so send a message to the BritMums moderator via the chat stating you’d like to join in and wait for your invite to join in. This is something we haven’t perfected yet but want to give a go this week – it’s a learning curve for us too, so come and learn with us. Please keep in mind there is a limit of 9 participants at any one time.
Really cool app for Google Hangout
Make sure everyone who’s watching knows who you are with this Lower Third app. By installing this app a band across the bottom of your viewing screen will appear allowing you to add your name and underneath on a second line your website. This hangout with the creator of the app explains the app very clearly.
In order to install this app you have to start a hangout (all by yourself) Once you are hanging out you’ll see across the top a tab for apps, find Lower Third and click, a sidebar to the left will appear where you can write in your name and website and choose a colour – BritMums are choosing blue. You can save your settings with a name, for example BritMums with blue if you’re hanging out with us and other versions for other occasions.
So would you like to join in our Wednesday Hangout? Make sure BritMums is in your circles, and be ready for 10.15 on Wednesday where we’ll be chatting about Blogging for Charity and especially focusing on ONE and the upcoming trip to Ethiopia where Jennifer Howze and Michelle Pannel are flying out to next weekend. Find out more with us on Wednesday.
