Charity Round-up: End Of Lockdown

Children are heading back to school and it’s equally exciting, relieving and anxious times for every parent right now. It’s been almost a year since we went into the first lockdown and we have definitely learnt not to be too excited about things planned for the future and also learnt to feel a mixed bag of emotions even about a single happening in life. So to take our minds off of our own problems, I brought you a little bouquet of blog posts about charities and good causes to read and lift the spirits.

How to tell a child needs mental health support

First – since this happened very recently: we had Children’s Mental Health Week 2021 during the first week of February and the theme was Express Yourself, to encourage kids to find ways to share their feelings. Claire from Single Parent Pessimist wrote about how to spot the signs of a child needing mental health support. This could be very useful for parents. to read especially, that the current lockdown is very hard for the little ones to cope with and understand.

Hearing from volunteers

Second, I have a post from Sarah talking about why volunteering is also good for the volunteer: apart from lifting spirits and setting example for your kids – there’s a few more she mentions in this blog post. It’s actually a short interview post with a few people who regularly volunteers. It’s interesting to see why others dedicate their precious time for a good cause and help others – you might find yours too. Read the post here.

A short story competition in aid of leukaemia

Then I have Jenni from Chilling with Lucas, she’s raising awareness for a short story writing competition for children. Open to children between 7 and 15 years old, they can enter a short story (less than 500 words) for their chance to be published, with the book raising money for the Leukaemia Cancer Society. Read more about this great charitable initiative here.⁣

A 22-mile run for refugees

I also enjoyed reading The Sickly Mama’s post about how she took on the challenge of doing Miles For Refugees, a fundraising event for the British Red Cross. She committed to running 22 miles during September – that’s the length of the English Channel. She did it and she shares her story on her blog, inspiring others to join.

Teaching youth to live more sustainbly

And finally on my blog I talk about a United Nations initiative of how with the help of the Anatomy of Action we can help the youth to rethink the way we consume and live more sustainably. It explores alternative models to do ‘more and better with less’: more experience and life instead of stuff.
