There are all sorts of ways that bloggers can make a difference. One way is to get involved in supporting good causes. How can you do that?
- Your first step is to join the Charity Connections – Blogging It Forward Group on BritMums. You will find out what other bloggers are up to and be alerted to forthcoming campaigns. You will receive a weekly e-bulletin with a diverse range of opportunities to consider. Join today. You are not committed to doing anything by joining the group but it is a great way to start investigating how you might do something on behalf of a charity.
- If you ever shop online, please join the BritMums #mums4good campaign. You will see the details of how to get involved on the BritMums homepage. Basically, every time you shop online a percentage of your spend is donated by the retailer to a charity of your choice. There is no extra cost to you so why wouldn’t you become one of our #mums4good? Again, don’t say you will get round to this tomorrow or in time. Do it now and start raising money for something that matters to you. To find out more, drop a tweet to @MummyBarrow, @AResidence, @Maris_World or @kateonthinice
- Sometimes working out which cause to support out of the thousands out there can be a real challenge. We would encourage you to visit Do-It. This is a volunteering website where you can search by the type of person you would like to help, the type of task you fancy doing and by geographical area. It might be that you are interested in volunteering within an organisation but the website is also useful for you as a blogger trying to narrow down the search for a cause to champion on your blog.
- You can visit your Local Volunteering Development Agency to find out about who needs help in your village, town or city. As well as telling you about vacancies for volunteers, the agency can tell you about the many benefits of volunteering and what you should expect in terms of good volunteer management.
- One very specific form of volunteering involves becoming a trustee on the board of a charity. This involves working as part of a group to ensure the charity has a clear strategy, is making sure the actions to implement the strategy are being taken and to meet the charity’s financial and legal obligations. Find out more about trusteeship at Trustee Works Trustee vacancies appear on Do-It or ask at your Local Volunteering Development Agency.
Remember BritMums are always keen to hear from charities looking to engage with bloggers and vice versa. If you follow up on any of these ideas, do leave a comment or email us and let us know all about it.

Thanks for this. I run a blog on the side (outside of work) and I've been thinking of ways to get involved with charities in this way. Great use of the Twitter hashtag in #2, by the way!
