The BritMums round-up editors have been encouraged to get creative with their posts this month. I have taken that advice to heart *ahem* and done the politics round-up in the style of an acrostic poem. I hope you enjoy it.
P is for Prime Minister: Here is a letter to David Cameron, from Mutterings of a Fool. I don’t think he’s best pleased with him, do you?!
O is for Olympics: Are you loving the Olympics? Hating it? Think it’s a big waste of money? Delighted by the political undertones in Danny Boyle’s Opening Ceremony? There have been too many brilliant posts about the Olympics to choose just one, but why not have a look at the BritMums Olympics linky and choose a few to read and comment on?
L is for Louise Mensch: Love her or loathe her, Louise Mensch has been fairly inescapable for the last couple of years, but she has just announced her decision to step down as an MP. Ellen at In a Bun Dance asks what that means – not just for Louise, but for us all.
I is for International Development: Our very own Susanna was at the Family Planning Summit in London last month, listening to an incredible line-up of speakers, from David Cameron to Melinda Gates. Read about the outcomes of the summit in her post, which also reminds us to keep the conversation going.
T is for a Tax on naughty bankers: Sonya from Sonya Cisco has a proposal to discourage irresponsible behaviour by bankers… what are your thoughts? Could it work?
I is for Ire: Poor Ruth from This Lemonade Life was a bit offended when I described some of her posts as ‘angry’ in the last round-up, but let me reassure her (and you!) that I meant it as the biggest of compliments. I wish more of us were angry about some of the things going on in the world at the moment… the dismantling of the NHS, for example.
C is for Choice: Oh good. Another study trying to drive a divisive wedge between women who make different decisions in their lives. Just what we need. Despite my dislike of this kind of report, I really enjoyed Muddling Along Mummy’s post about it, which asks ‘Is your choice to stay at home hurting my career?‘
S is for State School: According to writer John O’Farrell, the best education for our children is definitely in state schools – read his thoughts and share your own here.
Who knew that politics could be so poetic, eh? Just call me ShakespeareMum from now on…
