#BML16: Why we’re reinventing BritMums Live

What’s new?

That’s the question Susanna and I ask ourselves every year after the annual BritMums social media conference, as we start planning for the following year’s conference. The goal is always to make it more fun, more helpful, more fruitful and more of what you want.

We’re lucky in that so many of you tell us what works…and what doesn’t (it’s never easy to hear, but we do like constructive criticism) either in person, by email or via our post-conference survey.

You spoke, we listened, and as a result you’ll see some changes with the 2016 event.

First off, we have a shorter, snappier name. Instead of using the long moniker BritMums Live, we’re now known as #BML16. It’s a name tailored for the way we use social media now and reflects our updated outlook — modern, innovative and relevant.

Secondly, #BML16 is a one day event rather than one and a half. This is because so many of you said it’s easier to get away for one full day rather than stretching it over a day and an afternoon and that if you can only manage one day, you fret about which one to attend. Now you won’t have to organise your Friday morning and afternoon around work, family and childcare for fear of missing out. We’ll still have some kind of super-casual evening activity on the Friday night where you can come along, mingle and meet before the official Saturday registration, but you can also turn up on Saturday morning and know you’re getting the full experience.

It’s more collaborative. Some of the best sessions at BritMums events have always featured bloggers sharing ideas. You’ve told us in no uncertain terms how much you love it, so look for more of that on the schedule when we start announcing sessions. This notion is the basis of our mission statement for #BML16: Create. Connect. Collaborate.

It’s our 5th birthday! Yes, we have been doing this event for 5 years, which means it’s time for a celebration (or shall we say, a bit more of a celebration — we know how good you are at kicking up your heels under normal circumstances). So expect a few birthday-inspired fun and surprises and be sure to bring your party hat!

You’ll still see some of your favourite elements of BritMums Live at #BML16, including the BiBs party and ceremony, and the inspiring Bloggers Keynote.

If you have ideas or suggestions for sessions or speakers and haven’t told us yet, let us know!

And one final announcement: Early-bird tickets are on sale! Now’s the time to grab your ticket at a great reduced price. You still get the full day all-access pass, including the BiBs party and ceremony, hot catered lunch, coffee and tea, the opportunity to meet the brands you want to work with, and a fabulous BritMums bag stuffed with goodies.

Don’t tarry — get yours today!

I might need a sponsor this year, much like the Valentine Brothers: money too tight to mention. It cost me a fortune last year, but then I did fly in from Germany for it.
