The first clue that this wasn’t your average book launch came as we arrived. “Don’t forget to use our hashtag – #SBBlackDoor”, two press people told us as we entered the Secret Garden at Shoreditch House last Wednesday.
The second came from the author herself, who kept her speech short, announcing, “”I won’t speak long because this is a tweetup and we must get back to tweeting.”
Representing mum bloggers everywhere at the launch of Sarah Brown’s new book Behind the Black Door last week was founder of BMB Susanna Scott (@amodernmother), myself (@JHowze), our CyberMummy partner Sian To (@mummytips) and Livingwithkids’s Liz Jarvis (@livingwithkids).
Also there was a contingent from my old alma mater The Times – Caitlin Moran (@CaitlinMoran), Janice Turner – the Mumsnet gals, the nice folks from publisher Ebury, as well as a host of other personalities including Katy Brand (@KatyFBrand), Emma Kennedy (@EmmaK67), Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens (@thatdanstevens), Emma Freud (@Emmafreud) and Jimmy Carr (@jimmycarr).
(Pictured above, Sarah, Liz and Susanna. Photos are courtesy of my Blackberry camera. There are none of Sian and only one of me – below with Caitlin – as no one’s iPhone camera could handle Shoreditch House’s dim lighting. Take that, Apple.)
Sarah is as warm and friendly in person as she comes across in interviews, and she told us she’s looking forward to giving the keynote at CyberMummy. We can’t wait!
You’ll be able to buy a copy of her book on the day – we’ll have a bookstand available right next to registration that will take cash, cheques and cards. You won’t want to miss out because Sarah, along with Sophie King and Rachel Johnson, will be signing books on the day.
*PRIZE DRAW* Win a copy of Sarah Brown’s new book
In the meantime, we have a copy of Behind the Black Door to give away! To enter, leave a comment below answering this question:
Name a celebrity who attended Sarah Brown’s book launch along with the mum bloggers. (HINT: the answers are above.)
On Friday we’ll pick a winner at random to receive one of the most talked about books so far this year!
Don’t worry, Liz and Jimmy – you can always buy your copy of Sarah’s book at CyberMummy

Emma Freud. Love the whole tweeting thing - embracing social networking and modern communication at a book launch! How cool is that?!
