Beauty blogs you should be reading

A gaggle of beauty journalists get their picture taken

On Wednesday BritMums attended the Johnson & Johnson Beauty Care Journalism Awards at RIBA in London. (Special thanks to Family Affairs and Other Matters who was our fabulous plus-one.)

An impressive array of beauty journalists was in attendance, from publications ranging from The Financial Times, The Times, The Stylist, Stylist, Psychologies, European Cosmetic Markets, ElleUK.com and many more. Among this company were a handful of bloggers.

Sophiefeelsbetter.com is written by a beauty editor at Look who is coping with cancer. She takes a novel approach to beauty, writing about self-confidence, looking good and feeling good. Check it out.

Another site, www.amodelrecommends.com, does what it says on the tin, but in a very stylish tin. Ruth Crilly is a fashion model and writer and shares her tips, secrets and finds on this site. A good one for beauty junkies.

J&J has been including online coverage in its awards for years. The company is showing real vision in including bloggers alongside journalists writing for print publications and sites attached to big print publications.

One thing we did notice however was that the room was filled with relatively young women. It’s great to have new fresh 20somethings coming up, but next year we’d like to see some BritMums bloggers writing quality beauty content too. After all, who needs creams, tinctures and salves to revive tired skin and unpack undereye bags more than mums?
