It is good to mix it up and establish credibility - I think this why blogging is such a wonderful thing because you can just do it. You don't need permission and you learn what works and doesn't on the journey.
If you want to write then the best training is to write and have people read your writing. Every day is a school day since I joined the Internet superhighway.
