Christmas Foodie Round-up: Spiced cider baked ham, pickled roast veggies and chilli jam

Be prepared to loosen your belts a little, this round-up is about as big and indulgent as you might imagine a Christmas round-up to be!

I am going to jump straight in, so I’ll start with the savoury, with Taming Twins Spiced Cider Baked Ham, it wouldn’t be Christmas in our house without one! Mari’s World’s Italian inspired Pickled Roasted Vegetables would go down a treat on the side, or perhaps a little Red Onion & Cranberry Chutney and a little Chilli Jam (both from Yellow Days)?

I love the sound of Purple Pumpkin’s Christmas Pulled Pork (try saying that after a couple of mulled wines!) packed with Christmas spices, and served with a little Winter Slaw on the side? If yours is a meat free house, you will love this Trio of Festive Roulades from Life is Delicious, a Christmas Day starter perhaps? You could follow it up with this decadent Sweet Potato and Chestnut Pie as the star of the show (there are some fabulous vegetarian sausage rolls to be found on this site too!)…

Moving on to some Seasonal Sweets. It seems like you are all people after my own heart as there were a lot cake recipes left on the linky last month (thank you for every recipe by the way!). For a really beautiful home-made Christmas Cake, do pop over to The Good Life Mum, she also has a really lovely Italian Meringue Icing recipe to decorate it with. Not keen on Christmas Fruit Cake? How about Citrus Spice’s Orange Marmalade Cake as a fine substitute? These ingenious Snowball Cupcakes from The Diary of a Frugal Family bring back many a festive Advocaat memory. Another childhood favourite – Nutella, is the main ingredient in this Nigella Nutella Cheesecake, reproduced by Mari’s World. Why have I never seen this recipe before? Always a Christmas staple, BugBirdBee shows us how to make Slow Cooker Mincemeat – it always tastes better if you make it yourself I think (mostly because I haven’t had a choice for the past five years!) Sweet tooth still aching?   Try this Marzipan Puppy Chow (Christmas Crack) from Casa Costello, it looks so good. That, a plate of Christmas Tree Cookies from Kerry Cooks, a big mug of Candy Cane Hot Chocolate from Me and My Shadow,  the fire lit and a few Christmassy films on the TV – heaven!

As you might imagine, Christmas in Bavaria means an awful lot of gingerbread consumption, which is no bad thing if you are a gingerbread fan. If you love it as much as I do, then check out this amazing Gingerbread Cheese Cake from Cakes by Chichi.   ET speaks from Home shows us how to construct a traditional GingerBread House, and purely because it’s called Ginger & Bread, you have to investigate these German Cinnamon Hearts with Almond and Meringue from one of my favourite new blogs (I bet you will find some gingerbread on there somewhere too!).   She also makes a pretty mean stollen!

A few Christmas Drinkies as it is the season after all? I love the sound of this Quince Schnapps from A View From the Table, Amuse your Bouche makes a mighty fine Slow Cooker Mulled Wine too. If you’re the designated driver, you could always try a Christmas Mulled Pom from Simply Sensational Food, or one of Beach Hut Cook’s fabulous Mocktails.
