Travel Round-up: Beautiful Bath, wonders of Warwick Castle and a vacation in Verona

It was unusual for us not to go away this Easter but as we had a boy at home revising for his GCSEs it seemed sensible to stay put so he was less likely to be distracted. Sounded so good in theory but after a fortnight of him meeting up with friends, trips to the cinema and a couple of sleepovers I did wonder whether we’d have been better going away after all as I suspect it would have made little difference to his work output.

My son has always appreciated his travels but only once has he ever put pen to paper to write his own account of a trip. Last week I came across his diary from our Mediterranean cruise, in 2006, when he was 10 years old. I shared some of his entries in a blog post, “Son’s Travel Diaries”  and my readers agreed that his style; sparse and to the point, would make him an ideal travel tweeter. I’m hoping when we travel to Sweden in the summer he can be my Twitter PA. He’s not convinced.

So where did our parent bloggers manage to visit over recent weeks? Bath was a popular choice as I spotted two reports of this beautiful city. The first came from Sarah at The Secret Life of an Unknown Housewife. Her post, Day Trip to Bath, included the little gem that Bill Bryson is the voice of the audio guide for the Roman Baths Museum. That alone was enough to tempt me. Ian, at Single Parent Dad, also had a brilliant time: Our year of Get up and Go with Best Western – Bath and Longleat.  Ian’s son, Max, is now a very big fan of Bath after discovering that Captain Jack (Johnny Depp) had stayed in the Royal Crescent.

Still in the UK, Jennifer’s Little World shows us the benefits of planning ahead and using supermarket deal tokens to buy passes for attractions such as Warwick Castle, making what can be a very expensive family day out much more affordable.

Sarah, from Mum of Three World came to my attention when she added some great posts to last month’s travel round-up linky. Her trip to a wedding in Lake Garda, where the case containing all the family’s shoes went missing, is a hoot. So I shouldn’t have laughed when I saw the title of a recent post which gave me an inkling into how this particular trip to London was going to pan out: Another Crappy Journey.

If ever you really want to appreciate what the UK has to offer, then pay a visit to Melissa who is Smitten by Britain. A passionate Britophile, Melissa’s love of this little island of ours is very infectious. Her blog is jam-packed with loads of information about where to go and what’s on. Just recently she has been back for another fix of her beloved Blighty: Oxford v Cambridge.
Popping across the Channel, this year Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 20th anniversary and there to experience the magic were three very lucky ladies: Liz, Jennifer and Becky. My final choice for this month’s round-up is Emma who blogs at A Bavarian Sojourn. I first discovered Emma when she was living in Denmark and writing her blog, A Scandinavian Sojourn. Emma gave me some excellent advice about our trip to Copenhagen last spring and I have followed her adventures ever since. She is now living in Munich and her posts, plus evocative photographs, are well worth a look. I loved a recent post, Of Balconies and Bolognese (four days in Verona) where I learned that not only does Juliet have a famous balcony but she also possesses a shiny boob. Who knew?
