Travel: Top tips & more summer holidays

travelThis monthly travel round-up hopefully provides you with lots of inspiration for future holidays or days out. Last month was a bumper crop: plenty of destinations to choose from. This month is no different but I’d like to start with some posts which are a little more generic, covering travel issues rather than specific places.

Being Mrs C got me thinking with a very useful list: Ten things to take on a self-catering holidayI added favourite spices to the list. What do you always take?

Rebecca’s ( Here Come The Girls) has written a check-list for How to travel with twins and the golden rule seems to be preparation, preparation, preparation. She must have got this right because those adorable little girls look very happy indeed.

Simple pleasures are often the best with regards to holidays. Tara from Sticky Fingers has her 10 Tips for camping with kids and accompanies the post with some beautiful photographs of children enjoying the freedom that camping brings.

If you’d like some travel tips from an expert and have a chuckle at the same time, this podcast from Scummy Mummies, featuring travel writer Tracey Davies, will hit the spot: Travel Special: Wish you weren’t here.

Becky from The Laughing Owls writes that although travel broadens the mind, it can expose you to risks. News stories can feel far more resonant when they are from places which hold special memories for you: Too close for comfort

Going on holiday can be a bittersweet experience. The excitement beforehand can be so intense and yet the joy can start to dissipate as the final days approach and you know you will have to return to normality. Steve (Bloggertropolis) captures these feelings superbly in his post End of holiday disbelief

About Trish Burgess

Trish Burgess started her blog ‘Mum’s Gone To…’ with a series of posts called ‘Mum’s Gone To Iceland’ where she was extremely ill on a whale-watching trip and thought she would die snow-mobiling on a glacier. Thankfully she survived and continued with less scary family trips: ‘Mum’s Gone To…Canada, Cyprus, Barcelona, Berlin etc. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne she now lives in South Lincolnshire and travels with her husband and occasionally with her son, who is now at university.
