It’s one of the busiest, and most stressful, times of the year for teens, tweens and their parents. With A Levels, GCSEs and Key Stage 2 SATS, there’s a lot going on.
Here’s what our teens and tweens have been up to this month…
Key Stage 2 SATs, in Year 6, are usually the first time a child has worked under exam conditions. Are they worried? Are you unsure what it’s all about? This post from Nikki at Stressy Mummy explains it all perfectly.
Still on the subject of SATs, Pink Oddy shares the news that the Conservatives are planning to introduce SATs re-sits for children in Year 7, if they don’t do well enough in their KS2 SATs. Really? What would be the point in that? This is a very interesting read.
Over at Mummy Endeavours, Carolynne is also experiencing exam stress. Her son starts his GCSEs in the next few days, but there’s no prizes for guessing which of them is more worried about it!
Do you know what your kids are up to online? The chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re one of the more social-media savvy parents out there. But even social media savvy parents can have a shock, as Tanya at Mummy Barrow found out. I would urge everyone to read this post, as it’s a real eye-opener.
It might not seem like a big deal to us as adults, but Zayn leaving One Direction hit some teen and tween girls hard. How do you respect your child’s feeling and help them cope with something like this? Kate from Striking Mums has some good advice!
Sometimes it’s nice to celebrate our kids and remember just how much we love them. Lyn at Two Teenagers Two Cats has done just that in this beautiful post about her son.
Teenagers always moaning about their packed lunch for school? They want more, they want less, they want something different (but of course they won’t tell you what), they want to buy their lunch instead because it’s ‘cooler’? Yep, mine too! Luckily Sharon at Teen Tween Toddle has come up with some new ideas for those troublesome lunchboxes.
Still on the subject of teens and food, Best Dad I Can Be is out-voted by his kids and their choices for dinner. I’m slightly disappointed to see that the ‘what’s for tea?’ question I get every single day isn’t going to be going away any time soon!
I love this very funny post from Sounding Like My Mother on teenagers getting an ‘upgrade’. Mine is just a bit younger, so I’m guessing he’s due an upgrade too soon. Eeek!
If you’ve got a teenage daughter, you’ll be very familiar with this entertaining post from Mum Reinvented. And if your daughter hasn’t reached those years yet, make the most of her now! You have been warned…
Still on the subject of teenagers, the rules we must live by and the things we learn from them (usually the hard way), the queen of such matters, Suzanne from 3 Children and It, shares her Ten Commandments for Parents of Teenagers. Read it and weep! Every time I read something like this, I’m grateful that I’m starting my parenting journey with boys!
It has to happen at some point. In fact we’d worry if it didn’t. But the first time our sons and daughters announce they’ve got a boyfriend or girlfriend is always going to be tough. In this beautiful post, Amy from Mr and Mrs T Plus Three shares her thoughts on her daughter getting her first boyfriend.
Screen time is always a contentious issue for teens and tweens. I knew it was getting out of control for my own family. So over at MumofThree World, I share the new screen time rules which have helped me take back control. What do you think? How do you control screen time for your family?
That’s about all for this month. If you blog about teens or tweens and have a post to share, please add it to the linky below.
