It’s that time of year again – the lazy time. Adults might be working hard on their fitness, but if this month’s bunch of posts are anything to go by, our teens and tweens are certainly not!
The internet, exercise avoidance and a bit of reading if we’re lucky, here’s what our teens and tweens have been up to this month…
Natasha’s son at The 1970s Diet has been at secondary school since September and Natasha has noticed something which will be familiar to all secondary school parents – the silence. There’s so little communication from secondary schools compared to primary schools. Oh, and she’s solved the mystery as to why secondary school kids don’t wear coats…
We all use Instagram, don’t we? It’s just pictures, right? Er – no. Not to a tween it isn’t. As Stressy Mummy has discovered, tweens use it in quite a different way to adults, and it’s not always a lot of fun for the parents!
Talking of the internet, Cass at Frugal Family has been having The Talk (no, not THAT one) with her teen daughter about using the internet. She shares her tips for all parents of teens. I must admit some of them are new to me and I’m taking them on board!
With all the excitement of the internet and online gaming it can be hard to get teenage boys into good old-fashioned reading! So Anita at Thinking Parenting has come up with a list of sure-fire hits with boys. Now the next challenge is to actually get them to pick the books up.
It seems that teens and tweens fall into two categories – those who play for a team or attend regular dance classes – and those who do no exercise whatsoever. It’s very easy for older kids to give up their childhood activities and slip into a life of laziness. Thanks to Mum in a Nutshell for her tips on getting teens and tweens active.
Life as a teenager can be hard. But is life as a teenager who is also the middle child even harder? After a thoughtless throwaway comment from a teacher, Suzanne at 3 Children and It was inspired to come up with a list of ways that being the middle child is actually pretty good.
Sibling relationships can be difficult, whether you’re the middle child or not. Well, they certainly are in our house! So I’m very happy to share that at MumofThree World we’ve had a little bit of harmony restored between siblings. What are the chances of it lasting?
Over at Best Dad I Can Be, thoughts are turning to university (for the third time in their family). The distances he’s having to drive for the interviews alone are enough to make you weep. I must start singing the praises of our local university now while there’s still time!
Still on the subject of uni, over at The Diary of a Jewellery Lover, Mel’s son has completed his first term. In her lovely post, Mel shares her fears and how it feels now as her son adjusts to his new life.
That’s about all for this month. If you’ve got a post about teens or tweens you’d like to share with the round-up, please add it to the linky below. Or why not tweet me a link to @sarahMo3W for next month?
About Sarah Wood
Sarah is mum to a teenage boy and a tween boy and girl. When it comes to primary school stuff, she's got it sussed. But she's realising that as secondary school and puberty hit, she's still got a lot to learn! Between tweeting, blogging and parenting, Sarah is a freelance PR and copywriter, who still finds time to run long distances and eat a lot of chocolate. It doesn't leave much time for housework.
