Well the summer holidays are well underway. Are you enjoying the time with your teens and tweens? Or are you wishing they would go back to school or go out and get a job? Are they getting up in the afternoon then lounging on the Xbox, or endlessly out with friends and you haven’t seen them for days?
Our teens and tweens been up to all of this and more over the past month?
Why is Her So Stroppy’s Daughter has been celebrating her birthday – and her mum shares with us her party dilemmas As well as making me laugh – with her sweet-fest parties and not a tomato in sight – this is a really good guide to putting on a tween party on a budget.
Now her daughter is entering her tween years, Vintage Folly is starting to wonder how much she can continue to post about her It’s a great post on something all parent bloggers of teens and tweens have to consider – how much information is too much information about your child?
Mama You Talk’s eldest is nearly 12. And he sounds like the absolute blueprint for a nearly 12 year old boy If you’re enjoying your baby or toddler (or despairing of your baby or toddler) this is a reminder of how fast they grow up and how much they change. But the great thing about tweens is, they’re still your little boys and girls when they want to be!
Talking of typical 12 year olds boys… As children and parents get ready to embark on their secondary school journey, over at Mumof Three World I share everything I’ve learned about year 7 Let’s just say it’s not a particularly long read!
Untidy bedrooms are a big cause of stress for parents of teens and tweens alike, particularly for a self-confessed neat freak like Suzanne from 3 Children and It She has a plan up her sleeve to deal with this contentious issue and I for one am looking forward to reading it.
The school holidays aren’t all about chilling out. Chelsea Mamma shared a very interesting post about how teenagers need £25 a week but they don’t get the chance to earn it. And how many parents can afford to cough that up every week? Not many!
In a follow-up post, Chelsea Mamma described just how difficult it is even applying for a job at a supermarket. It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. Her teenage son is lucky he’s got his mum helping him and encouraging him all the way.
Over at Ojo’s World, Joanna’s teen has self-esteem and body issues. Joanna’s teen is a boy. This is a great post for raising awareness of boys and body image If you think these things only affect girls, I recommend you have a read.
Over at The World According to Izzie, Izzie admits that her daughters have her wrapped around their little fingers. But when one of them couldn’t make a decision about a night out (to the grown up reader it sounds like she couldn’t organise a p*ss up in a brewery), Izzie decides to take a stand.
Best Dad I Can Be is having clothes issues – because his son won’t wear shorts. Hot weather doesn’t affect teenagers, does it? Neither does wet weather or cold weather, if memory serves me correctly. And there’s a broken bone in there too. Only BDICB could make broken bones funny.
And because it’s the summer holidays, I’m treating you to a double dose of Best Dad I Can Be! In which I sadly learned that teenagers are still fussy eaters and sometimes when you’re trying to tell them off, they gang up on you – and the other parent does too. Oh dear.
So that’s about it for this month. Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you back here in September for more from the world of teens and tweens. And if you’ve got any posts you would like to share in the meantime, please add them to the linky below.
