Style Round-up: The Springtime Edition

Springtime is just around the corner and with it brighter colours and lighter fabrics will be making an appearance in shop windows, but how are fashion bloggers around the country updating their wardrobe for spring and how can you look stylish without breaking the bank?

For this month’s Style round-up, I’ve been looking at blog posts that will not only inspire you to be braver with colours and patterns, but also to make use of what you’ve already got in your wardrobe.

First up, we’ve got Fritha from Tigerlily Quinn, who regularly shares the outfits that both her and her fashionable sidekick Wilf have been wearing throughout the month. This week, Fritha is rocking a green and yellow outfit perfect for springtime – a splurge after clearing out her wardrobe and a trip to the charity shop. She’s accessorising with a coloulful necklace that reminds me of my early teenage years – in the best possible way!

Looking at older pieces and former wardrobe favourites is something that Mel from Mel Wiggins and six of her friends will be doing for their Wear Your Wardrobe challenge, an attempt to give up clothes shopping for lent. Not an easy mission, but already Mel has been seeing old items in a completely new light. I can’t wait to find out what else she will find at the back of her wardrobe!

Sharon from Thrift My Style has shared her first experience of a Swap Clothes Party, a way to update your wardrobe for springtime without spending a penny and while having fun with friends and other fashion addicts. Going by her pile of new clothes and accessories, the event was a real success!

Keeping in tune with the blogosphere’s frugal start to springtime, Avril from School Gate Style is sharing different ways to wear a pair of jeans showing off a pair that she has picked up for £4.50 on one of her weekly trips to the local charity shop. Don’t we all love a bargain?

Of course, we do and that is why Sera from The Agoraphobic Fashionista has compiled a must-read guide to selling clothes online. Who thought that Ebay is the only place to sell your wardrobe contents and make a bargain will be surprised about the sheer amount of platforms for pre-loved fashion and accessories. I’m off for a snoop as soon as I’ve finished writing this round-up…

Before that however, I want to share Katy’s New Year New Style Project with you. It’s March and hardly the New Year any more, but springtime is the time for change and trying something new, so let’s do this! Every month, Katy aka Modern Mummy creates a list of daily prompts that encourages you to come out of your comfort zone and share a snap of your interpretation using the #NYNYStyleProject. I have followed the hash tag on Instagram and Twitter and a quick word of warning: It’s highly addictive!

One of this month’s New Year New Style prompts surrounded animal prints and Kat from Does My Bum Look 40 In This asks a rather interesting question on her blog: Is Leopard Print The New Neutral? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Leopard print yay or nay and how much of it is too much?

And while we are being all opinionated, let’s continue with another debate that divides the fashionistas of the parent blogging world: Heels or Flats – which team are you on? Judith from Make Me An Earth Mother admits to being a flattie (real word, created from one flattie for another) and wonders whether the shoes that you wear are not only a fashion statement, but also giving a clue about the type of mother you are. What do you think?

Completely ignoring the debate, let’s move on to Charlotte from The Mummy Blogger who can most definitely pull off a high heel and that’s exactly what she’s doing in her latest outfit post that shows us the Warehouse dress that she wore to her dinner date with Mr Darcy. Elizabeth and Jane Austen would be green with envy!

If heels are a must at the races, you decide, but before you make up your mind hop over to Laura from Side Street Style. She shows you an alternative race day outfit that combines practicality and style and might be an option, if you’re not much of a fascinator fan.
