Style Round-up: Bargains and sales

Style Round-up: Bargains and sales

dress style 610Christmas is over. We’re spent up to the hilt. BUT…..the beginning of January is always a good time to invest in a few must-have items.

If we buy something frivolous but fabulous in the sales, it’s comforting to know we’ve frittered away only half (or less) of the original price. And a wisely judged purchase of a classic piece at a knockdown price, can free up cash to spend on other items: it means you don’t always have to splash out those boots, or that coat, right at the beginning of the season.

If you’re looking for tips on what to buy in the sales as an ‘investment piece’, check out this article by the marvellous Lauren Laverne….it’s not a blog, I know, but it offers some handy hints for garments that might stay on-trend beyond the winter months.

And who better to guide us through all the bargains, than some of our fashionista bloggers?

First up is outgoing BritMums style editor, Avril Keys, who handed the baton over to me this month. I’m delighted to be stepping into her (super-stylish) shoes.

She did a cracking job of keeping us up-to-date with the best style blogs. On top of that, her own blog, School Gate Style, has grown to be so successful she’s decided to focus on that and other related ventures.

Way to go, Avril! Here’s a well-timed piece, with her recommendation on a good online sale for this year.

Johanna Peyton at The Fashion Detective, has sleuthed her way (sorry…obvious joke, I know!) round the sales and offers us up some choice purchases that are still available.

Online shopping seems to be in favour among our fashionistas this year. There’s a chuckle-worthy post on My Midlife Fashion about how she flew into a bargain-snapping frenzy on Boxing Day. It includes a thorough line-up of some of the jeans that are out there in this year’s sales.

Claire Justine tells us about her day at Derby’s sales, and how she’s found more bargains online this year than when trudging round in the cold.

And for all the rest of us who’ve braved the crowded pavements and battled our way into seething changing rooms, Miss Beauty Budget has put together a list of sale items that will help us unwind and de-stress.

Going back to the subject of bagging classic items in the sales, Does My Bum Look 40 in This has written a witty, wise post on how she’s resolved to buy only three items a month. Starting with over-the-knee boots, she shares her tips on making the most of the bargains that are around at this time of year.

And, over at Style at Every Age there’s a round-up of six coats that are under £100, which should be on your wishlist.

Tempted to get online and see what bargains are left? I know I am.

See you all next month, when I’ll be posting a round-up of thrift-conscious blogs that create beauty and style on a tight budget.
