Single Parent Round-up: Super Positives All Round!

Welcome to July’s Single Parent Round-up… are you loving the sunshine still?

Glasgow Mummy has been ticking things off her “35 by 35 list” – a great idea I think I might have to copy… I’m not sure I’m likely to speak to a famous person any time soon though. I loved the photos in this post, but it also got me thinking about what I would put on a “35 by 35” list myself… though I only have a couple of years left to achieve any of them. Do you have a list like this?

Claire at Single Parent Pessimist has been investigating the world of dating, something I’m interested to read about since I’m also heading back into the nerve-wracking world of dating myself. Claire did some speed dating, which is something I’ve never tried; if you’ve tried novel ways of dating I’d love to hear about them!

Becky at Lakes Single Mum has a great linky on her blog called “Reasons to be Cheerful” – which I love because… well, who doesn’t love a reason to be cheerful! I love the idea of writing a post like this on a regular basis because it forces you to find “reasons to be cheerful” and notice that they exist. It’s so easy to get bogged down in bills and having a bit of a cold and stressful school runs, so anything that makes you search out the positives is a good thing in my mind! Why not have a think right now – what are your reasons to be cheerful?

I absolutely love this post by Natasha from Mummy Musings about having a two year old. Her son is only a month older than my little girl, and I can relate to everything she says. I love how she turns the usual “terrible twos” saying into a list of all the things she loves about her son. I think we can all be quick to list the challenging things about parenting a toddler, but actually they’re pretty remarkable and their capacity for learning is amazing to watch!

In keeping with our theme of positivity, Looking for Blue Sky has had a week of “firsts” with her daughter Smiley. I love that three things we may take for granted or think are nothing unusual are actually singled out in this post to say, actually yes, it’s a big deal for me and it’s made me smile. It also raises a salient point about disabled toilets and older children/adults who wear nappies – something you don’t tend to think about unless you’re in that position yourself.

Finally, we have Amy at Cocktails in Teacups who is getting her house ready for Summer. I love the photos in this post; they have given me a bad case of home-envy, but also inspired me to get up and do something with the mess that is my own home right now. My little girl has never had her own room because she shares with me, but after reading this post I’m thinking perhaps I should get going on turning her bedroom into an actual bedroom for a 2 year old!
