Single Parent Round-up: Spooky!

Single Parent Round-up: Spooky!

single parent round-upHello, me again. I know, it’s been a whole month already. I’ve no idea where the time goes. I seem to live my life from weekend to weekend, getting to Friday and thinking, “where did that go?!”

Of course, it’s half term for a lot of children now, and Halloween is just around the corner, followed by Guy Fawkes Night and the season of fireworks and hats and gloves. I love this time of year… but I really don’t like the cold. Time to crack out the onesies I think!

Anyway, let’s get on with the show. What have our lovely single parent bloggers been up to this month?

I have been loving this post from Gemma at Sunshine on a Cloudy Day. It starts off a bit sad, but is ultimately quite a happy, positive post – and who doesn’t need a bit of positivity?

Another person who’s fairly new to being a single parent is Kip Hakes. This post was less upbeat than Gemma’s, but the whole “keeping busy” thing is something to which I can relate – there’s a fine line between keeping busy in order to not go bonkers, and just sort of papering over the cracks with a nice shiny, clean kitchen!

Becky at Lakes Single Mum has been telling us all why we should learn first aid. Of course, this sort of thing is important for all parents – but as a single parent, I feel things like this are that much more important. If something did happen – however big or small – there would most likely be nobody else here on whom I could rely to know what to do. It’s always best to have a bit of knowledge, however small, to help you through.

This next one is something I really love, and think we could all do with joining in on – single parents or otherwise. Claire at Confessions of a Single Parent Pessimist has a linky called #My3Things about parenting. Each week she lists 3 things that didn’t go so well, 3 things to focus on for next week, and 3 things that did go well. I think this is a great way to be more mindful of our parenting practises, and reminding ourselves of what we’ve done well also.

I loved this post from Looking for Blue Sky about tax cuts; it raises a good point about taxes. We all moan about paying tax, but we’re happy to use the services provided by those taxes – either locally, with rubbish collection and street lighting, or nationally, with the NHS. We might not all make use of the public services available right now, but in years to come who knows what we may or may not need?

Finally, I leave you with this post from Carla at Random Thoughts of a Twenty Something. Anyone who knows me, will know that mental health is a massive thing for me and it’s really great to see there are other single parents out there being open about their mental health – and still doing a cracking job of raising their children.

That’s it for this month; thanks for reading.

If you have a post you’d like included in November’s round-up, please contact me by Thursday 20th November.

About Vicky Charles

Vicky is a 35 year old single mother with a cheeky 4 year old. She lives in Wiltshire and works as a freelance writer and trainer in blogging and social media. She has been a single mother since her daughter was 2 weeks old, and started blogging to try and give voice to her feelings of “lost-at-sea-ness” that all mothers get, but that single mothers often don’t have any company in. In her spare time, she usually develops addictions to dvd box sets and sometimes cleans the living room… but not often.
