Well, another article has hit the web, this time from the Telegraph. Another article that criticises the online parenting forums (Mumsnet and Netmums in particular) and the plethora of “mummy bloggers” who somehow find the time to blog amid all of their other responsibilities.
The author, Jojo Moyes, manages to criticise the topics on the parenting forums and points a finger at the forums which, she says, are nothing more than an online “school gate”. She adds:
But read them for long and it’s hard not to imagine your average user glued to her screen, posting tips or criticisms, while her own child sits ignored in front of CBeebies. Yes, they offer support and community, but they also soak up the one resource most mothers have in shortest supply: time.
Another mother/journalist who is weighing in on the precious topic of blogging and motherhood. What do you think? Are parenting forums and blogs detrimental to the raising of your children? In my circle of friends there are many who have no idea of what blogging is and no intention of finding out either, they too have similar ideas on how I pass my time but the girls are happy, well fed and clean. I play with them and I blog it! I feed them and I blog it! and whilst they sleep tucked up after a good day I blog for me. Everyone has an opinion and I choose not to listen to them half the time :)

I thought the author did not understand blogging sufficiently and instead made some fairly sweeping judgements based on little evidence. I agree with the other commenters that the article was written like this to provoke us and I for one am going to try and avoid outside attempts to undermine parental blogging.

I blog when my daughter's asleep in the afternoon or evening. It's also when I work if I have writing projects I'm working on from home. But even if I did snatch 5 minutes while she was awake, I don't think it's a sin. Does that theory stand for everything then? What if the phone rings when the baby's awake - should I not answer it? Or how about if I'm gasping for a cup of tea?!
