Last week at church I was listening to a lady speak on new starts and fresh beginnings. She was talking about how September is practically another January and for most of us it is a time to re-evaluate and think about where our priorities lie in the next year ahead. I was a bit taken aback at first to be honest as I’d never considered September in this way but for the first time ever as a work at home mum I could see that September was a new starting block. The kids would go back to school and routine would be re-established but it was my chance to make that a new routine if I wanted to. So that is what I’m doing this September carving out a new routine with lots of time to exercise and take care of myself, I think once I master those many other areas in life will become a lot easier.
As I started to search the parenting web sphere it became apparent I was not alone and so many parents are thinking about making changes. The first blog I read was Peacocks and Pom Poms and this is one busy lady, not only has she been decorating and renovating over the summer she still has some going on now, she is tackling the linen cupboard, planning all the menus and getting out her trainers and lycra, I wish her good luck as I was exhausted just reading it but she does seem really determined.
It made me smile to find Rachel starting a new blog on 1st September to mark the start of her new year. The Ordinary Lovely (as she has called it) looks to be a great place for calm, loving, everyday fun. I think she sums it up really well when she says ‘The Ordinary Lovely is my promise to myself to cherish the fifty weeks of the year that we’re not on holiday and the 364 days of the year that aren’t Christmas Day.’ You know what they say, take one day at a time and live in the moment that is certainly when I feel more joy in my life.
I liked reading Mummy Plums post about good intentions for September, she has been really sensible and set herself some goals to strive towards and even better she has limited herself to just four goals. It can be so easy to let your imagination and good intentions run away with themselves and then you end up feeling too busy and stressed to achieve anything.
Collette at We’re going on an adventure has put together her autumn bucket list and boy is she going to be busy over the next three months. I only created my first bucket list last autumn and I found it a fabulous way to help me focus on the things that are important and need to be achieved in a short time frame. For me I feel it is important to have a mix of fun and more serious things to keep me motivated.
Toni at Expat Mum seems to be taking a firm stand with herself and she has set herself a number of ‘no excuses’ goals that she hopes to achieve. I was smiling as two of her goals are to get dressed each day and to go out and see humans, it makes you wonder what she is up to at home and certainly does not match the well-polished and friendly woman I’ve met before.
Here is a different kind of new start, Liz at Me and my Shadow is an ambassador for #Zerowasteweek and she shares her commitment to cut down on packaging from her daughters packed lunches. You must read this one, it is amazing what a difference you can make with just a little effort.
I’ll leave you with a post that will have you grinning by the time you finish reading. Emma at Emma and 3 has gone through so much over the last few years and finally it is time for her brave little Erin to start school and we wish her the best of luck.
I hope September is a time of great joy and happy new beginnings for you and that the blog posts mentioned here go a way towards helping you define exactly what it is you want from the year ahead.
I’ll be back in November and the super Emma from Mama Syder will do your Positively Inspirational round-up in October.
Be blessed, Mich x

Thanks so much for sharing Liz's inspirational post about reducing waste in school lunchboxes and for the Zero Waste Week hashtag mention, Michelle. We had a fabulous week with lots of wonderful people making the pledge to reduce landfill waste and I appreciate you spreading the word :)
