SEO: URLs and their importance

A clean URL is one that clearly leads the user to see what they are reading in the browser bar.

It’s less relevant on mobile where the browsers don’t show the URL usually but on a desktop is highly relevant.

The first thing you need is a secure site – your URL needs to have a SSL certificate and https protocol associated with it. This is something that your host can sort out. If they can’t. Well in all honesty then it’s time to move hosts.

Next comes the biggest thing that can help you in SEO if you can remove the dates from your URL then you need to do it ASAP.

I recommend hiring someone to do this – it’s a short job but with someone that knows their work it will be much quicker.

One question that comes up time and time again is category names in your URL’s some sites this works really well. A local site that offer activities in certain towns, counties or locations. It makes sense to have town name, location or counties in your URL.

Others it makes it difficult to clean up and move your posts between categories so I don’t advise it.
