Post-40 Bloggers Round-up: If you read only one post…

post40 bloggers 610When younger, I realised what separated the young from the old (anyone over 25) was the latter group’s constant reminiscing and squeezing younger people’s cheeks telling them how grown they’d got. The super committed older person would sometimes produce photographic evidence – when you were with your friends usually – because who doesn’t like to see an overweight baby lying on a fake (insert your animal of choice) rug?

But there was one reminiscence on Twitter recently which rang so true it is worth being hauled off to the old camp for agreeing with nearly every word of it. It was a muse about old-school blogging. Wait, don’t go.

It was Nickie O’Hara’s fault. She wrote two blog posts on the subject which were more than the usual lamenting of the ‘good ole days of blogging.’ The first post compared the steps involved in blogging now and then and is the post I am suggesting you don’t miss this month.

In the ‘then’, you’d write a post, publish a post, and then go off to do something meaningful offline so you’d have something else to write about the next time you were socialising with your computer. Three steps. Done.

In the now, there are at least 40 steps to get from the writing of a blog post, to publishing a blog post, and to all the post-production dances after the thing is published.

Don’t get me wrong, I love change, innovation and technology, but sometimes I am very guilty of holding up that photo of the simpler days of blogging butt naked on a rug.

I am therefore recommending the post you don’t miss this month is: ‘Oh, for Pete’s Sake, Just Write! by the inimitable Nickie O’Hara who can also be found at:
