Politics Round-up; A mixed bag.

A variety of different topics got you talking this month, making it hard to pick a general theme for this round-up, so I haven’t, instead here are snippets from the best political posts from our bloggers.

Jayne from Mums The Word looked at the housing crisis :-

“So, what if our landlord hadn’t had a change of heart? Where would we be? In a hostel, with a kid, a baby and a dog in tow?

One of the main problems seems to be that people are allowed to stay in council properties which are totally unsuitable for them. The estate near us is made up of mainly 3 bedroom houses and I’ve seen several of these properties inhabited by a lone old person – I’m not entirely comfortable with the idea of old ladies being wrenched from their homes, but at the same time, should a young family not be being given a chance to live in a property with reasonable rents?” Read More

Suzanne from 3 Children and It discusses Michael Wilshaw’s suggestion of fines for parents whose kids don’t do their homework and other acts of ‘bad parenting’ :-

“But these days, a new parent is signing up to a whole lot more than this. They’re also coming under the watchful eye of big brother and no, I’m not referring to the reality TV show. As if being fined for taking our children on holiday, or being told what we can/can’t put in their packed lunch boxes weren’t enough, the latest suggestion of punishing parents who do not enforce homework or fail to turn up to parents evening, tops the lot!” Read More

“What if you can’t make it to parents’ evening because you’re working every available shift at work, in order to keep the wolf from the door? What if you can’t make sure your child does their homework because you’re at work, then cooking dinner, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, collapsing in a heap on the floor? You know you should make your child do their homework, but you only see them for a couple of hours a day and don’t want that to turn into a battle of wills where you try and force them to do something you can’t help them with because you’re not so good with academic things?” Read More

Michelle from Leaner Mother takes Cerys Matthews to task over her willingness to accept an honour from an institution she once sang about her dislike of.

“I’ve always really liked Cerys. I was a fan of Catatonia since their Way Beyond Blue days; I quite like her solo stuff; I reckon she’d be a laugh in the pub, AND she wrote a song (admittedly, not her finest) called Storm the Palace. She’s officially passed my Good Egg test.

But this morning I wake up to the news that she’s been offered an MBE and not only that, she’s delighted to accept! I mean what’s that all about?” Read More

Maddie from Gammon and Chips shares her thoughts on the sexist point of sale in Clarks and the #LetShoesBeShoes campaign.

“And what’s even worse is that up to this point Clarks has refused to a) take their blatantly sexist ads down, b) apologise for them and c) meet with the campaign organisers to discuss how they might improve their gender representations in the future.” Read More

Around and Upside Down and Fashioneyesta contributed to each others blog on the subject of disablilty, looking at societies attitudes and particularly focusing on fashion and identity when you are disabled :-

“Lets enable society to look past disability and understand the language of fashion in
