Politics Round-up: Mandela and more

This past week saw the passing of one of the greatest politicians of the last century. Mandela’s life was long, difficult and ultimately triumphant. He provided us with proof that change for the good is possible, and he was a great believer in the power of dialogue and forgiveness, as well as being a powerful orator. Several bloggers wrote their own tributes. I looked at what our politicians could learn from him, while Mother.Wife.Me reflected on her first memories of him, courtesy of Special AKA. Talk About York writes movingly from a personal perspective. Liz from The Mum Blog has some personal memories of Nelson Mandela dancing with royalty. Ginger Snap Blogs reminds us we must take care of his legacy, and never return to a time of hate. Elsewhere Christmas is on all our minds, but can you imagine Christmas without a home? Mummy Glitzer reminds us that plenty of families are homeless this Christmas, and asks us to help Shelter help them.

• Head In Books looks at the politics of Motherhood, and the arguments that shouldn’t exist.
• Just Bring The Chocolate writes a brilliant and impassioned post about welfare cuts, and how we need to stand up for the society we want. I have headed over and signed the petition after reading, I hope some of you will too.
