Poetry and Prose Round-up: Would I July to You?

It’s come and gone for another year
We shared the laughter, shed a tear
With wine, awards, friends old and new
Cake and nibbles and more cake too
With sessions on Travel through to YouTube
Ended it all with a song about boobs!

Well, BritMums Live has come and gone for another year and many happy memories have once again been made. I wrote a poem just before BritMums Live entitled ‘The Blogger’ which I believe summed the event up for many of us. It was wonderful to see that a number of the bloggers keynotes were made up of prose and poetry including Sarah Miles at Supper and Syntax, Laura Seaton at Tired Mummy of Two and Helen Braid, my former co-editor and blogger at All At Sea.

One of the things that I love about blogging is not only how diverse our subjects can be, but also where our journeys take us. Sarah and my co-editor, Stephanie, run a site called Paper Swans and they are currently running a #bodybeautiful linky, helping to champion their bid to normalise our bodies, despite what the media are trying to tell us. If you have written a poem, old or new, about your image then why not go and join them?

So, as always in the poetry world there have been many things happening that are personal experiences which people draw upon to write their verses. Lets Talk Mommy and Rambling Through Parenthood shared their children’s birthdays, Virtually All Sorts shared memories, Life As It Is shared her London travel experience and Just Because I Love shared something all parents with school aged children are doing at the moment – Sports Day.

Sometimes being a parent can send you a little bit nuts with all the different crazes that seem to turn up in your house. Tealady Mumbles writes a poem on Crayons whilst A Patchwork Life shares a poem on the massive craze that is loom bands!

The dream of England reaching a World Cup Final is crushed again this year but the football remains on our television. I was walking through Lidl yesterday and noticed the massive supply of England memorabilia just sitting there rather unloved. Lisa’s Life wrote a poem to share in the World Cup ~~agony~~ excitement.

There is such beauty tinged with sadness in many of the poems I read. Examples of that this month include poetry from Not A Frumpy Mum, Littlee and Bean, Emilys Page and Planet T.

As parents, one of the subjects we frequently blog about are our children and with the poetry that comes from this experience you can find anything from a poem by BrummyMummyof2 for a new mum, a poem about parenthood from Mummybearsblog and children being the best teachers by My Life. My Love.

Then there are the poems which celebrate or highlight the world around us. Eco-Gites of Lenault and Mummy from the Heart write about the beauty of the world around us whilst The Uncheshire Wife highlights the fact that, sadly, not everyone is nice. Mummy Tries and Mum Turned Mom share the smells that jog their memories, Ojo’s World remembers the first dance with her husband, My Days NI remembers the fact that we are all getting a bit older and all Muddled Manuscript wants is a nice cup of tea.

Finally, I thought I would leave you with a bit humour this month. Firstly, we all know the Disney film ‘Frozen’, it has become a bit of a ‘thing’ among parents. If you haven’t seen it then take a look at Mummybears encouragement poem! Also, I always enjoy reading Maddy’s poems over on Writing Bubble but this time she has excelled herself with an Ode(a) to Yoda (it helps that I am a Star Wars fan!).
