Photo Blog Round-up: It’s Wedding Season

In 2005, I quit my full-time, well-paid job in advertising and entered the world of wedding photography. As with any creative business, photography is an industry with a lot of competition and it’s difficult to stand out. However, through having a unique style, solid business practices, and good PR, I have grown my company and reputation to be one of the most exclusive in the industry. Now, weddings only make up a small percentage of our business, with boudoir and family portraiture taking the lead.

One of the things that definitely helped to get the word out there about Julia Boggio was the rise of the wedding blogs. Somewhere around 2008, I became aware of them. As a good businessperson does, I was Googling myself and found a really complimentary post on a site about my work. I immediately got in touch with the blogger to say thanks and even quoted her on some of our marketing literature.

So I thought that, in light of the fact that wedding season is now upon us, I would highlight the work of some of the UK’s best wedding blogs, which are FULL of photographic inspiration.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Bride – I have to mention Kat Williams first as she is the one who I talk about above. Kat’s blog started out discussing her own wedding and then quickly blossomed into a site about all things alternative and matrimonial. She features wedding photography and inspiration from around the world and has tens of thousands of followers. For bloggers, she’s one to admire for how to turn your blog into your business. I shot Kat in our famous Vintage Boudoir style back in 2010 and have been featured a number of times on her blog. One post that I particularly loved recently is where she brought my attention to the Wonderland series by Kirsty Mitchell, which led to me to the photographer’s blog. I dare you not to be awed by this.

Rock My Wedding – Also full-time bloggers, Charlotte O’Shea and Adam Crohill run the amazing Rock My Wedding site. I was originally featured on their site many years ago because one of my brides had become cyber-friends with Charlotte as they planned their weddings together. Since then, I’ve worked with Charlotte and Adam on a styled wedding shoot, called Valley of the Dolls, when I was 32 weeks pregnant. If there is one word I would use to describe Rock My Wedding, it’s “fashiontastic”. Yes, I made it up, but that’s what it is. Aside from showing off great wedding fashion, they also have helpful advice on everyday fashion and even have tutorials on how to up-do your hair. You could lose hours of your life in this site.

Love My Dress – I’ve mentioned Annabel Beeforth’s website before because she is also a mummy and will hopefully be joining me at BritMums Live! Her blog captures the vintage market (here are my Orient Express and Claridges vintage shoots), but I also like her discussion posts where she talks about various issues in the industry and her posts on inspirational women, including mum and photographer Natalie J Watts. In fact, I was smitten by this recent post about Interior Designer Julie Chambers. One of the few magazines I read cover-to-cover every month is Living etc, so I’m a self-confessed interior design-aholic. Julie’s designs are oh-my-god good.
