It is lovely to report that so many bloggers have taken on the challenge of “blogging it forward” to spread the word about a diverse range of charities. If you have not already done so, do join the BritMums Charity Connections – Blogging It Forward Group. That way you will get to know which good causes are looking for help and have a say in how blogger-charity partnerships develop. You can and will make a real difference.
If you are looking for topical ways to get involved in April, take a look at this website which lists some very special awareness events http://projectbritain.com/specialdays/apr.htm
Here are just a few of the posts that have grabbed our attention recently.
- The campaign by the British Lung Foundation to see cars turning into smoke-free zones for children really hit a nerve with many bloggers. A really powerful post which acts as quite a wake-up call and gives all the information you need for you and your children to campaign on this issue is here http://squeakybaby.blogspot.com/2012/03/smoke-free-for-squeaky-me/html
- Home-start is a wonderful charity that supports parents with at least one child under the age of 5. You can read all about them and why one blogger is involved here. This post will appeal to potential volunteers as well as to parents who are struggling a bit and could benefit from Home-start services. http://thisisme-sarahmumof3.blogspot.co.uk/2011/07/homestart.html
- Cat posted about the innovative fundraising initiative by Breakthrough Breast Cancer that worked so well for so many of us this Mothers’ Day. http://catsyellowdays.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/last-minute-mothers-day-gift-ideas-look-no-further
- Continuing the Mothers’ Day theme, our new friends over at the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund asked us to highlight this story about a RAF wife http://www.rafbf.org/1-17-12/raf-mum-the-best-job-in-the-world.html
- Bookaid’s World Book Day initiative was celebrated in this post. http://www.mummyandboo.com/2012/03/01/world-book-day-what-are-you-reading/
We spend our vouchers and dress up but do take the time to check out the valuable work done as a result over at http://bookaid.org
Just think! Even if you can’t find the time to blog about such campaigns, you can mention them on Twitter and other social networks. That might mean that a young child is not coughing in the back of a car too scared to complain. It might mean that a parent who needs a listening ear and some practical support gets it. That is the huge difference a little goodwill can make.
I would like to thank all the bloggers who are getting on board with BritMums Charity Connections – Blogging It Forward and more are always welcome.
I have to give a special mention this month to Nickie over at I Am Typecast for her wonderful efforts to raise awareness of Clic Sargent’s Yummy Mummy Campaign some of which you can find here http://www.iamtypecast.com/2012/02/dosomethingyummy-link-up-week-1.html
She used weekly prompts which provided inspiration to many of us bloggers whilst raising awareness. It was a creative idea and worked well.
If you blog about good causes, do let me know and send a link to kateonthinice@gmail.com so that BritMums can help spread the word about your efforts.
