Photo Blog Round-up: It’s Christmas!

 

My photography studio has taken a lot of photos at Santas’ Grottos this year — A LOT. I wish I could show you all the photos of crying children that we have accumulated. Quite frankly, they are hilarious (including one of my own daughter on I Carried a Watermelon).

I guess parents around the world are sadistic when it comes to this because there is no shortage of photos on the web of crying children with Santa.

Christmas is a time of year that makes people take out their cameras. I liked this post from Katie-Randomnest in which she shows off a slew of homemade glittery ornaments and I wish I had seen this post before heading out to M&S to buy a whole new selection of non-breakable, non-toxic, non-exciting ornaments to decorate the tree. I should have just covered items we already had in glitter!

Part of me is a little sad that I’m not putting up my usual ornaments on the tree. There is a sort of ritual that we all go through at Christmas that involves taking our old friends out of a box and hanging them up. That’s why I loved this post by Save Every Step and this post on Mummy from the Heart about the rituals of Christmas.

Ornaments are details that bring back ambient memories. Where did we buy them or were they a gift? Are they from our childhood or made by our children? How many years have they been in the family? For this Elvis ornament on Molly’s Daily Kiss, it makes me wonder if there was a trip to Graceland in her past. Or maybe she just likes Elvis. And what if you aren’t sure where certain ornaments came from, like these old, but beloved decorations on Cakes Photos Life.

Christmas is also a time when people really get creative. Playdoh and Poo illustrates how to make a wreath for our door while Family Budgeting gives us some holiday card-making inspiration. And just in case you were wondering what to feed Santa’s reindeer this year, Captured by Lucy shows us the wonders of desiccated coconut.
