A feast of new blogs
Welcome to another collection of new blogs for the month of August. As you all know, I’m a sucker for a post “written by” a toddler. So having found Expression and Confession last month I headed over to check her out for Newbie Tuesday, and couldn’t resist this one, about buying a new bathroom sink. There’s something about the words of a two-going-on-three-year-old that never fail to make me chuckle. Oh, and Mummy, I quite like that sink too! 😉 And more toddler awesomeness comes from A Mum in London, as well as proof that I do read the posts you all put in the linky down there so go ahead and link up! Dear Mum, I’m a Toddler, That’s Why is a lovely post that explains it all – and we all need that in our lives when we’re battling the confusion, don’t we?
They may be cute, but toddlers can be infuriating too. Over at Two Years Old and Rising, there is confusion over a missing winky. I fear I may have given this blogger dangerous advice when faced with the never ending “Why?” questions from her child. But if you can’t have a bit of fun with them, what’s the point of a toddler, I say! And there’s another tiny havoc-wreaker at My Toddler Rules, who made a rather unfortunate phone call this week. I say it’s just a shame she didn’t get hold of a call centre worker!
There’s a new photo linky in Blogland, hosted by Charly from Podcast. What’s the Story lets bloggers post a favourite photo every week – not necessarily a photo from that week, not silent, no theme, just any photo that has a story behind it. And I couldn’t resist reading about Carolynne’s twins when I saw the gorgeous photo on Mummy Endeavours. She’s waving them off to school next month for the first time, and feeling a bit sad, so I’m sure she’d appreciate a word of support from those of you who have done it and survived to tell the tale. And I couldn’t resist this one (more happy babies) from There and Back Again. Who doesn’t forget all the pain of sleepless nights when they have a photo like this to look back on?
Someone else who might need a bit of reassurance is Bad Mummy Diary, who is faced with the impending birth of a girl. She doesn’t ‘get’ girls, and in “Give me a willy, any day,” she’s wondering what she’s in for. I confess to having been the opposite, not knowing how I would cope with a boy, so I know from experience that something just clicks, and you identify with both sexes equally well. It’s a funny read, and maybe she doesn’t need the reassurance after all, but check it out and let her know what you think.
The Condoms are Off is a new blog documenting one couple’s attempts to have a baby. I’m impressed by how brave this is. I know there are other blogs about trying to conceive, but for all my over-sharing this is something I don’t think I could have blogged about. But when I went to read her blog today, having glimpsed a note that said a new addition was arriving in the family, I really didn’t expect this post! But it did start me thinking about second child syndrome, and the lengths we go to to prepare our firstborns.
Someone who must be well-versed in this is Welcome to the Mummy Madness, who is on pregnancy number 3! If her third child is anything like as cute as this little one on her first birthday, it will be a breeze. Just check out all those gorgeous photos!
Lots of us are looking for things to do with the children over the school holidays, and despite my craft-aversion, I’m rather taken with this suggestion from Nurture My Baby. My kids are scribbling and sticking continuously, and I’m never sure what to do with the quite frankly truck-load of paper they churn out. This idea for recycling their drawings into home-made cards is one which I’m sure would cut down on both the paper stash and the guilt of not pegging absolutely all my darling’s creations onto the wall!
I’ve been reading Complicated Gorgeousness on and off for a while, waiting for the perfect post to pop into a Newbie roundup. Gabe’s story is complicated, but he’s the most gorgeous thing, and especially in this post about Camp Amazing. It sounds like such a perfect experience for a child with additional needs, and he looks so happy, I just had to share it with you all.
The Southside Girl has a story we can all relate to. Sleep. Not the sleep we crave when our children keep us up in the night, but the sleep we lose when we just can’t stop ourselves from going to check on our sleeping child. I remember it well, and it took a lot of work to stop myself getting up 25 times a night to check my child was still breathing/sleeping/there! She’s giving us a few tips on how to stay asleep for longer in this post, and I’m in agreement with her, although it still baffles me. How is it that clean ironed sheets can help me sleep better, when my husband prefers to sleep with a knot of duvet in the middle of the bed!?
Here’s a handy post from Moral Fibres. If you’re anything like me, you don’t like waste, and that does sometimes lead me to cooking food which is past it’s sell-by date. I often worry that I might accidentally poison a child (or God forbid, my husband, who will throw out anything approaching it’s best-before date if he can get to it before me)! I leave eggs for weeks sometimes before I eat them, and I’m never quite sure if my queasy stomach is down to the sell-by date or a latent egg allergy! But now I’ve read this post I know how to tell if an egg is safe to eat or not. Genuis!
Now, if you’ve run out of ideas for things to do over the holidays with the kids, and you’ve finished visiting all the ace new blogs in this roundup, I suggest that there is nothing for it but to make This Mummy‘s no-bake Crunchie cake and settle down with the Disney channel. Honestly. Everyone will thank you for it 😉
If you’re a new blogger, please do leave your latest post in the linky below so that everyone can find you. Have a good month!

Well I am not a mother yet - but am an approved adopter so am busy blogging about how we have got this far. Blog posts go back to October 2012, but I actually only started writing it in July - just backposted from my private diary for the earlier stuff

Fairly new to blogging at least in this way (started on private one and went public in July). Not a mother yet - but approved adopter so it is coming ... my blog tends to chart highs and lows as we go through the process.
