Newbie Tuesday Round-up: New blogs with a lot to say

newbie round-upHands up who didn’t make it to BritMums Live? It seems like every blogger in the UK was there, given the number of lovely posts I’ve read this week, but I’m well aware that some people just couldn’t make it. Emma, from new blog, Life as it is, was one such blogger, and she gamely joined in with the “I’m (not) going to BritMumsLive” linky! So if you didn’t, or if you did, and want to show Emma some support, go and check out her introduction post – be gentle!

As well as all the BritMums Live posts, I’ve been on the hunt again for a top new blog, and I found a really pretty new blog with a post about being an introvert. I remember the days of personality testing at work, and I always came out extrovert, despite a fear of answering the phone, and a preference for a quiet bubble bath rather than the bar after a work event. I still crave my own company – which is probably why I can work alone from home – but I seek out the limelight, and love to be with friends. Caroline from Tea is the Answer is attempting to leave her comfort zone more often, and her post got me wondering where most bloggers fit in the spectrum. Are we mostly introverts, tapping from the safety of our screens, or does the very fact that we “overshare” make us more outgoing than we think we are? I’d love to know your views.

Tuesday is Newbie’s day, and it’s also the day a new Wot so Funee? goes live on Actually Mummy. I never fail to find some corkers via the folk who link up with me, and last week it was this post from Laughter Mud and Mayhem that had me creased up giggling: I’ve so done half a job reminds me of another young child that lived in my house not so long ago. She’s grown up a bit since then, and I’m wondering whether I should let this blogger know what she’s in for! I had another new linker this week who really has the essence of #funee all sewn up; check out Twinlifeonline‘s selection of cute and funny mistakes her children make.

On the subject of growing up, Instinctive Mum had a wake-up call last weekend as her daughter’s growing independence took her to a sleepover that she was not prepared for. My own girl is chomping at the bit for more freedom, and so far it’s been a gradual and fairly uncomplicated process, but I know there will come a day when I feel uneasy with her new directions. I hadn’t really considered that she may also come to find the experience traumatic, until I read this post about letting go. Beautifully written, and another consideration for all mums of slightly older children.

Also musing about her daughter’s race towards adulthood is Nicola with her new blog Short Stuff. Her post about how quickly time passes left me with goosebumps and a determination to play more with my children while they still want me to.

Now, here’s a question for you. Are Mums better stay-at-home-carers than Dads? Before you start to yell at me, this is a contention made by a Dad. Bacon Rolls to Plastic Dolls is quick to qualify his statement with the news that this is simply his opinion, but he maintains that Dads are not wired the same as Mums – it’s biological, he says. I imagine he’d love to know what you all think. I’d love to see him chat it out with Man and Buggy, who this week writes about his obsession with his iPad, his inability to exercise, and his efforts to maintain his relationship with his wife – he sounds exactly like every other Mum I know!

At last the weather has started to warm up (shhhhh!) and I’ve dug out the shorts and enjoyed getting out on bikes with the children. I’ve written before about how much happier the kids are once they’re outdoors, exploring and playing at make-believe, so I’m always struck by posts that give me ideas on more to do outside. I particularly loved this list of activities for the summer, from Not Keeping Mum. We’re not going away this summer, so as well as digging out my boredom jar, I’m going to sit down soon and make a list of lovely things to tick off as we do them, rather than waste all our mornings trying to decide what to do.

I’m going to leave you with a rant. Who doesn’t love a rant every now and then, and what better format to use than Mummy Barrow‘s Ranty Friday? I found this rant about Facebook over there recently and wholeheartedly agreed. A to Z Mummy is sick of all the attention-seeking posts that ask her to click “like” or comment on a cute picture. Pure spam, the lot of them, she says. What about you? Have you ever wished for a “dislike” button on Facebook?

See you next month, and if you’re a new blogger in need of some attention, pop you link in below – the rest of us will try to pay you a visit!
