This month the reins of the Newbie household are passed over to @WallyMummy aka Helen Wallen who writes Just a normal mummy and has a penchant for gin and wine it would seem.
This week I am covering for Actually Mummy, so this regular spot is likely to take a slightly ‘darker’ turn this Tuesday – apologies in advance for that…
I am still a relatively new blogger myself; I began blogging back in April this year and after getting past the first few tentative posts, I soon felt comfortable enough to start saying f@*k and vagina on a regular basis. And by the time I’d been writing a month, my blog had morphed into the twisted, potty-mouthed, life account it is now known as. The account of Just a Normal Mummy.
I find my little spot in the blogosphere a welcome outlet for all the hilarious things my child (and my mind) conjures up every day. I LOVE reading parent blogs that celebrate the humour of it all. Because that’s what gets me through the day… that and knowing it will go to bed soon… and then there will be silence… and gin.
So I shall use the power entrusted in me by Britmums this week (bet they’re regretting that already) to showcase a few newbie blogs that have made me giggle recently and pay homage to all the bloggers out there not afraid to risk the pointy, pointy finger of others parental judgment in order to tell it like it really is.
I found some blogging fresh meat, just a few weeks old (awwww), that tickled me at Wonderments with her never sleeping Little Missy and quest for life beyond nappy sacks (it doesn’t exist, just get drunk and cry like the rest of us.)
Another first timer – Just Juggling – master juggler and dedicator to the cloth nappy. Lady, we salute you and your use of the word pooplosion. Along with Honesty and Humour a new blogger who’s daughter has perfected the ‘annoyed at mummy’ face and has had a first hand experience with the amazing PE kit stealing goblins… those bastards get everywhere.
Gammon and chips is a girl after my own heart; the most fabulously nicknamed tigger-like-toddlers, CBeebies, and surviving Pontins. Send that mother a medal.
From a blogger who started at almost the exact same time as me, this post made me smile… it does mention the C word (the festive one, cheeky) and talks about the dreaded toy naming saga… Ours are all called Colin. It’s just easier.
I stumbled upon Mum in the South through a mutual friend and it had me releasing a small amount of wee almost immediately. Three under five makes this blogger parenting royalty; she’s a self-confessed un-yummy mummy and professional cheese-straw maker. *does curtsy*
If there’s one thing I like nearly as much as booze it’s cake, and this new foodie/mummy blog fusion Serve the kids first had me grinning (whilst mentally stuffing my face that is)
This post from The Best Laid Plans had me spitting out my tea (well, gin). And I am totally with you sister – there is indeed NOTHING that cannot be rectified with an organic rice cake. FACT.
Another gin-spitter is this ‘bag-lady’ post …who amongst us doesn’t delve into their pockets on an average day and find enough baby paraphernalia to start an eBay business…
Four feral children clueless mummy – Some truly chuckle worthy reading including a post about vicks vapour rub in the eye… Jeeeez… that is up there with standing on lego. Serious respect.
Hope you’ve had a good laugh this week. After all laughter is good for the soul. And so is gin. And I’m just saying a double dose can’t hurt.
If you’ve been blogging under a year and want to join in add a post to the Linky below so we can come and find you.

Helen Wallen, AKA WallyMummy, is the voice behind Just a normal mummy
Previously a PR/copywriter she became a parent for the first time at the end of 2011, and has now made the switch to full-time sleep-deprived gin and cake tester, or ‘full-time-mum’ to use the more official term.
She blogs about life with her daughter – The WallyBubba – giving her own frank, funny, sweary, shouty take on the parenting journey. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry, but most of all it’ll make you drink. And as a mother that is your GOD GIVEN RIGHT. #ginformums
