Newbie Tuesday: What’s in your handbag vlogs

22 November 2011 by Annie Spratt

    Knock knock!
    Who’s there?
    Fantastic…
    Fantastic Who?
Fantastic new bloggers just for you!

Welcome blogging buddies to this week’s Newbie Tuesday, a little slice of weekly newer-blogger love where I highlight some good reads from the past week and share a tip or two.

    Highlights of the Week

I’m not as bendy as I used to be however Blurofwoodsmoke is rather bendy indeed and can put her leg over her shoulder – I say vlog it!

Talking of vlogs a couple of brave newer bloggers joined in with the BritMums Video Blog Challenge and showed us just what was in their handbag producing some very different and amusing videos indeed! The rather mad (but very lovely) Cheetahs in my Shoes showed us some very odd items in her 3 (yes 3!) handbags, Adventures of an Ordinary Parent made me literally jump across my living room with her surprising offering and I too gave you an insight into what’s in mine.

Flossing the Cat has been on top from with a hilarious post which is a must read for anyone else who would be perplexed as to what “Veggie’s full-time” means when said in a well known fast food burger chain. Another funny blogger, All Sweetness and Life has been talking of ‘Rude Boys‘ this week in a very readable and entertaining (if not a bit saucy) post.

A blogger who has stopped to remind herself what she’s grateful for is JuneMummy who also makes choccy chip cookies as well as summer babies which leads me on to something that I read this week that was so disturbing it made my hands tremble involuntarily. Please everyone just take a moment of silent reflection and sympathize with Expatalogue who has discovered that Dairymilk tastes different in Canada than over in good old Blighty.

A mini-rant this week (and we all love a good rant) came from SAHDandProud who is fed up with his Doctor’s ridiculous appointments policy.

And finally some brand spanking new bloggers. Mummy Big Bum has found that sometimes wrong is better than right, Maid in Yorkshire divulged that she has a nest-egg which she keeps secret from her husband and A Hell of a Woman tells us how Buffy saved her life.

    This week’s tips

Badges! You may have seen badges displayed on blogs on your travels of the Blogosphere. Badges are essentially an image that when clicked on takes the viewer to a designated page. People add badges to their blogs for a multitude of reasons from making their blog look pretty to showing their support of something or someone. Badges are frequently used in memes.

Have you ever wondered how to make one? This week I’m showing you how to make a basic badge for your blog.

    • Firstly create an image for your badge, include text too if you like. There are many programs that you could use such as Picnik, Windows Paint or free downloadable image creating and editing software such as GIMP (which I like to use). Good sizes for badges are either 150px X 150px or 200px X 200px. Here’s my image! Next you need to upload your image (Photobucket is a reliable, free website you can use for this) and make a note of the direct link or url of your image.
    • Next the code, you need to add the details that are in red below yourself, then copy and paste all the code into a html/text box on your blog, either in the sidebar or a post – wherever you like!
<div align=”center”><a href=”this is where you paste the url that you want the badge to link to” target=”blank”><img src=”this is where you paste the link to your image” alt=”” style=”border:none;” /></a></div>
So for my badge I have just designed the code would be:
      <div align=”center”><a href=”https://www.britmums.com/newbie-tuesday-7/” target=”blank”><img src=”http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff496/anniespratt/badgefor.jpg” alt=”” style=”border:none;” /></a></div>

And there you have it! If you fancy trying your hand at making a super flashing badge quickly then head over to Boo and Me who has posted a tutorial on making easy flashy badges.

Have a great week blogging and I’ll be back next week with more highlights and tips!
