Brrrr! There’s a chill in the air this morning and what better excuse to grab a cuppa and snuggle up with your computers on the sofa and enjoy the warm, fuzzy sensation of the great newer bloggers in Newbie Tuesday?!
Highlights of the week
This weeks must-read post comes from Yellow Days who has explained how to publish your blog to Kindle, it’s surprisingly easy and having followed Yellow Days instructions I published my blog to it within five minutes!
Postcards from Pramstead has had me chuckling this week with her Ten commandments of Motherhood – read it and I guarantee you’ll be nodding your head and muttering “so true”!
Poor old Bluebirdsunshine has been suffering the joys of children who are learning to share and AmsterdaMummy has been saying ‘Hello!’ to Santa already…a perfectly normal affair in Holland as it happens.
One of my favourite new bloggers whom I recommend keeping ‘an eye on’ for the future is Adventures of a Middle Aged Matron. One of her ‘offerings’ this week ‘Issues with tissues’ is a fabulous read, not only is it funny but it is very well written indeed (I wonder if she’ll teach me some of her literary skills if I send her biscuits)?!
PigletInAPoke has spoken of EARHAIR (and no it’s not quite what you first think) and Adventures of an Ordinary Parent has summer up childrens television perfectly with a post titled ‘You know you’re watching too much Cbeebies when…’
And I’ll end my highlights this week on a manly note with Comfort in Sound‘s ‘Movember’ update and the ever so dashing Musodad‘s tale of what not to do in the Peak District with two young children. Between you and me I’m discovering that father bloggers are possibly the best kept secret in BlogLand…
Tips of the Week
Memes! Even if you do not have the dickens as to what a meme is the chances are that you have come across them on you travels of the blogosphere.
One of the most famous memes in blogging, which was the first one that I came across when I started blogging, is Mocha Beanie Mummy‘s ‘Silent Sunday‘ where every Sunday bloggers post one photo taken in the previous seven days. Other mega-famous memes include Kate Takes 5‘s ‘Listography‘ and Sticky Fingers ‘The Gallery‘.
A meme is when a blogger has an idea of a blogging prompt that others can join in. The blog hosting a meme usually has a way of other bloggers participating to leave a link to their meme related post. The popular way of doing this is with a ‘linky list’. There is a very easy to use website called Linky Tools which, for a small cost each year, you can set up as many ‘linky lists’ as you like. Linky lists are really popular with bloggers as once you have written a post on the theme of someone’s meme you can add your link to the list and other people who have also blogged on the same subject can find you easily.
Memes are a fantastic way of finding other bloggers and really getting involved in the blogging community, not to mention a bit of a boost to the amount of people coming to visit your blog. There are a lot of memes out there though so it’s worth finding a balance between joining in with them and writing your own material.
Some newer bloggers with memes are Boo and Me with ‘Mix-Tape Monday‘,Here Come the Girls with ‘Tuesday Tea and Sympathy‘ and @homedad with Fiction Fridays. There is also Chatty Baby‘s ‘You get the picture‘, Actually Mummy‘s ‘Wot So Funee?‘ and of course the shy and retiring (ahem) Mammasaurus with ‘Saturday is Caption Day‘.
Do you know of any newer bloggers who have a weekly meme? Please let me know so I can help spread the word – either by commenting below ( I am in fact a closet comment-junkie) or find me on Twitter @MammsaurusBlog. Until next week – farewell and happy posting!
