Review Round-up: Opera, chocolates and grow bags

I’m pleased to say the review round-ups seem to be well received.  People keep tweeting me with links to their new review posts, so I have plenty of reading to keep me going the whole month through – thanks.

This month I have decided to showcase some posts that bloggers have written for products either given to them by friends or family or things they have bought themselves.  I find it is very easy to get lost in the excitement of receiving something for free (well not really free because of the time and effort we put in to using and writing about the product but that is a whole different post) and it is good to remember every now and then that even if we never received another review items again from a PR or brand that we would still be out there reviewing and doing some great work.

I’ll start off by highlighting one of my posts (which is what made me think about showcasing non-sponsored content to be honest).  My husband is a Cub Leader and last month we went with loads of his cubs to Duxford Imperial War Museum for a day out, we paid for it like everyone else and had such a fab day that I felt compelled to come back and share with my readers.  It was a real kick to get tweets from people saying they had often wondered what it was like and they may venture there now. I got a re-tweet from the Imperial War Museum account and loads of extra traffic ended up on my blog over a few days, a nice little bonus!

In the same vein Liz from Me and My Shadow went on her family holiday to Combe Mill in Cornwall and in her words ‘Its simply a magical place that I wanted to share with you’. I loved this post from Liz, her style is really engaging and yet so simple.  It makes you think and if you are like me it will make you super jealous that she got to stay at Combe Mill when I want to.

When I have been being so good over Lent having given up chocolate I frankly think it was super unfair of Cakes, Photos, Life to post about her delicious Krispy Kreme chocolate selection. A couple of times a year when she travels from London to home she enjoys the luxury of some Millies Cookies and Krispy Kreme doughnuts and this time she found the chocolates and having enjoyed them so much, she had to share….  just a shame it was only in words and pictures and not literally!

Tim writes about something completely different, being the loving husband he is, he treated his wife to a night at the Opera and then regales us all with just how impressed he was.  I have never been before and I have always been a bit unsure but having read Tim’s review I would be interested to go and hear the quality of the singing and to see this sexy man that Tim talks of.

Nat at Ready, Steady, Mummy is keen to install a love of reading into her little babe, so they have started to read stories to their 5 month old and in this post Nat shares what they are reading at the moment. She gives a good descriptions and opinions for 4 different titles and I am sure this lovely post will inspire many a parent to go out and choose some new books.  We have been to the library just today as all my kids love to read too and we started them young as well.

Next up is Debbie from the Johnson Babies, she took her little girl to Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park for her 3rd birthday and wanted to share the amazing time they had.  This is a lovely post which provides some really useful information for the reader but is also very personal and endearing with lots of super family photos.

Allotment Mum wants to share with us all why hanging bags are so much better than hanging baskets.  Ever heard of a hanging bag before? No, nor have I but apperently you can grow strawberries and tomatoes in them, so now I am interested.

There you go, 7 review posts which all came directly from the heart and without an incentive in sight.
