Video Round-up: The varied nature of video blogging

The great thing about video blogging is that you can use video to enhance almost any kind of blog post. Sometimes it really helps when you’re writing a review to be able to show the product in use. Sometimes if you’re talking from the heart it’s nice for people to see your face and hear your voice, and sometimes it’s just great to capture the silly things our kids do. This month in my round-up I’m going to share videos with you that fall into each of those categories, and I’ve also found a couple of useful things that might help if you’re keen to start video blogging but need a little inspiration to get started…

I always love when someone tries their hand at recording a video blog for the first time, and this month I found Tinuke from circusmums.com having her first go in front of the camera. I find it hard to believe this is her first vlog, as she comes over so relaxed and natural when talking about running, the couch to 5k programme and the race for life. I hope we’ll be seeing more vlogs from you soon Tinuke.

What’s the secret to a great video review? Well personally I love seeing the product in action, and if it’s a product that’s aimed at kids I love to see the kids getting involved too. For a great example here’s Ruth over at minibreakmummy.co.uk reviewing the Trunki Travel toybox, with the assistance of her son. It really gives a feel for what the product is like to use, and I must confess I’ve popped one on my daughter’s wish list for next birthday!

Even at the age of tender age of just 4 my daughter is learning about blogs, and she’ll often tell me that I must take a photo or some video of her “for your blog Mummy”. It’s fun seeing the world through kids’ eyes, and I loved seeing the blogging world through the eyes of 7 year old GG at Actually Mummy – this is what our kids think we get up to when we’re “blogging”!

Lovely as our kids are, it’s also nice to have the occasional day off, which is exactly what Penny from the Alexander Residence managed a week or so ago. She’s managed to capture all aspects of her day out and create a great video memory of the day.

Penny is one of the 20 video bloggers shortlisted in the VIDEO! section of the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging awards, and some of the other shortlisted vloggers have made videos to tell us how they feel to be on the list.  Here are Helen from PetitMom, Sarah from Secret Housewife and Jenny from Cheetahs in my Shoes talking about the awards. One of my favourite resources for video blogging advice is Simple Vlogging Tips, and this month Jendi gives some top advice in relation to video work – video blogs aren’t perfect. Don’t wait until you’ve got your video perfect, just get it made and uploaded.
