The sheer effort of getting five – or is it 10? – portions of fresh fruit and vegetables into our children each day is one of family life’s constant battles. “I am sure I am not alone in thinking 5 was at least doable, however 10 is not so?!” says Jaime from theoliversmadhouse. In our latest challenge we asked top bloggers to share how they incorporate juice – one of the easiest and effective ways to get a fruit portion – into their children’s diets. The #FruitJuiceBoost project was sponsored by the British Fruit Juice Association.
The ease of juice
“I’m a parent who likes some easy wins in my day,” says Zena from Zena’s Suitcase, and we couldn’t agree more. A 150ml of 100% fruit juice = easy win in her book and ours. Kara, aka Chelsea Mamma, sneaks a glass inside her anti-fibre son, Isaac, each morning with his breakfast.
Count the benefits
Just 150ml a day is equivalent to a portion of fresh fruit and, according to Country Heart and Home: “It is a good source of vitamin C, potassium and folates, amongst other nutrients. Vitamin C is essential for a healthy immune system, potassium and folates help with cell and muscle tissue repair.” Hayley from Downs Side Up notes that her daughter’s “weakened immunity and frequent constipation mean that I have to pay particular attention to keeping Natty hydrated and supplying her with her recommended daily dose of vitamins.” Mummy from the Heart’s daughter “affectionately calls OJ her ‘brain juice‘ “
As our bloggers have discovered, who doesn’t love a glass of fresh juice? It’s easily available – every place from big supermarkets to corner shops stock it – and it’s wonderfully effortless. “If I cut the fruit up & make a bowlful of fruit salad [my teens] will help themselves and eat the lot in no time, but I don’t always have the time (or inclination) for all that faff”, says Helen of The Crazy Kitchen on why she has taken the juice route.
You can get creative with juice
Amanda, aka Ginger Mum, has even found ways to get creative with such a basic ingredient: “The boys’ fave thing to do with it other than swig it down au naturel is to make it into scrumptious ice lollies. Suits me to a tee because for this crappy crafter and shortcut mum, there is no skill or talent required and virtually no mess if I leave the kids to it.” Emma, from Kids Craft Room takes the idea a stage further by adding chopped fruit to the lollies – delicious.
Juice for the whole family
Plus, the best news? It benefits don’t have to be limited to the children. Over to Charly from PODcast: “What’s been brilliant about POD drinking a 150ml glass of 100% pure juice every day is that we drink more too. And we feel much better for it too.”

I just love how easy pure fruit juice makes it to start the kids' day off with one of their five (or ten) a day! It's become an everyday part of life now that we wouldn't be without.
