July Foodie Round-up: Travel eats

foodie round-upI would like to start the July Foodie Round-up by wishing this year’s Foodie BiB winner a huge congratulations!  Lucy Parissi’s Supergolden Bakes is not only visually stunning, but her delicious and original recipes will ruin the will-power of the hardiest dieters – I guarantee it! Very well deserved!

Two of my favourite recipes of Lucy’s are her Bramley Apple Caramel & Cream Pie and her Gin & Jam Cocktail, if you haven’t visited her blog yet, you really should!

And now on to matters of Summer…  as promised this month’s round-up will feature a travel inspired recipe or two as the holidays hover on the horizon (or indeed have already commenced as they have done here!) for so many of us.

Kicking off in the UK – I really enjoyed Food Stories tale behind Cornish Sea-Salt –  a post which includes a recipe for Salted Pita Chips. I would love a slice of this traditional Treacle Tart – apparently Harry Potter’s Favourite –  from Poires au Chocolat, and a big helping of Jam and Clotted Cream’s Apple and Gooseberry Crumble wouldn’t go amiss either.

Moving across the Channel into France. If you can’t guess that I am a sucker for a French dessert from this next lot then I don’t know what will convince you. Starting off with one of my favourites – a traditional Cherry Clafoutis from Franglaise Cooking. Swiftly followed by Casa Costello’s French inspired Lemon Frangipane Pie , and totally appropriate for Wimbledon Season – Hot & Chilli’s Vacherin and Sweet Eve Strawberries. If you have a glut of Apricots you could always try my Apricot Tarte Tartin, it’s easy I promise. Fancy a trip to France after all that, but can’t take any time off? Pop over to Greedy Diva’s for a virtual culinary trip around Bordeaux and St. Emilion.

Down into Spain now with a delectable Tapenade from The Goodlife Mum. Need to cool down on a hot summer’s evening?   Here’s – a Cucumber Gazpacho from My Kitchen in Spain.

Back up the map and across to Germany, where seasonal red-currants are prevalent – here’s a delicious Red-Currant Tart from Pebble Soup.

Even further up still to Denmark, where after spending two years living there, everything elderflower will always take me straight back – as would this Elderflower Cordial from Bangers and Mash…

Now onto Italy, starting with a Tuscan White Bean Salad from Elizabeth’s Kitchen, a pine-nut topped Tuscan Ricotta Cake from Nami Nami.  Who couldn’t resist this vibrant Peperonata from Mari’s World which would work well as a side dish to pretty much anything, and if that has given you a taste for all things Italian, have a look at Fuss Free Flavour’s Origin of Pizza in Naples.

Hopping over to Greece now – our final port of call for this round up –  for some Grilled Octopus with Lemon and Chilli from Honest Mum, and a healthsome Cauliflower and Halloumi Salad from Souvlaki for the Soul, I love that name!
