Introducing the new Education Round Up

I’m fascinated by education and I love swapping ideas and views with other parents. Don’t get me wrong; I’m no Tiger Mom. I have no plans to hothouse my daughter and get her into Oxbridge by the time she’s 10. I don’t profess to be an expert either. But I do think that how and what we teach our children underpins the rest of their lives. So I thought it’d be a good idea to start a BritMums Education Round Up.

Of course educating children isn’t just something that happens in the school classroom, it comes in many forms. There’s home education, there’s a growing trend for flexi-schooling (where children spend part of their time in school and part of the time being educated at home). There are different methods of education, Montessori, Steiner to name but two. There’s private and state education and the debates that rage around them – league tables, exam pressures… the list of topics for discussion is endless.

And let’s not forget all the education and learning that occurs before a child gets to school. Be it at home, in childcare or at a nursery. And then there’s extra-curricular learning, whether that involves a musical instrument, trips to the swimming pool, dance classes, martial arts or any other of the whole gamut of things on offer to children.

If you have something to say on any aspect of educating your child, I want to read it and help you share it with as many others as possible. The first Education Round Up will go live on Wednesday 9^th May 2012 and will then happen on the second Wednesday of every month.
