Video Round-up: Finding answers in video

Whilst I’ve been collecting my favourite video blogs for this month’s roundup it suddenly struck me that I am being drawn to videos that answer those great questions which have been giving me sleepness nights all these years. So I am pleased to be able to share these with you in my roundup this month. It’s not quite the answer to the great question of life, the universe and everything, but it’s pretty close…

First up we have Glenda from Cutlery and Catering who shares with us a video of how to correctly lay the table (and more importantly answers the question that always comes to mind on those few occasions that I manage to go out to eat somewhere really posh – which cutlery do I use for what?).

Rebecca from Rollercoaster Mum has made a lovely video starring her daughter all about planting seeds for National Gardening Week (and more importantly answers that question which has been keeping me awake for literally years – how exactly do you pronounce “Echinacea Purpurea”?)

Some of my favourite videos result from the community coming together to produce some great collaborative works, and this month I have a fantastic example of this to share with you. The amazing Tara Cain has attempted to drive away those all-too-common feelings of inadequacy that all us Mums seem to have by getting a selection of bloggers to answer the question “why are you fabulous?” . Tara has produced a montage of all the responses which is just brilliant (although I must confess that I find Mummy Barrow quite intimidating with that diary, and I’m secretly very jealous of Sandy Calico‘s Rubik’s cube skills!)

Another question that’s been answered this month is exactly how many mummy bloggers can you fit into a family-sized car? Thanks to Alex from daddacool we now know the answer, as he set out to discover it as part of his participation in the Nissan LEAF Big Turn On project. You won’t believe how many bloggers fitted into the car, although I still want to know if they could shut all the doors…

The lovely Nadine, also known as Juggle Mum, answers the question “what’s your best money saving tip?” with an excellent tip that won her a starring role in a new television commercial – well done Nadine!

If you’re wondering about the best way to arrange your changing station then let me point you towards Adele from Circus Queen who has produced a very good video showing how hers is set up as an introduction to her BritMums Live sponsor. I particularly like her little helper, and the addition of outtakes at the end.

Rebecca from Here Come the Girls answers the question of what series of book she’s been reading to her children recently by making a video of her own book for the series. I think it would be a bestseller if she got it published – what about you?

If you’re getting butterflies about visiting the BritMums Live conference in June and asking yourself questions like “will I know anyone?” and “how will I find someone to talk to?” and “where’s the cake?” then all these questions were answered by the tea, of BritMums butterflies. They will be on hand to look after you, and they’ve made their own video introducing themselves so that you’ll recognise them. Penny, Gemma, Alex and Clare will be stationed near the tea and cake at the conference, so I know I’ll be making a bee-line for them when I arrive!

And finally in this mammoth round-up I couldn’t help giggling at this video from Jacqui at Mummy’s Little Monkey, who finally found out the answer to her question about who had been stealing her smartphone to play apps. Busted!

If you have a burning desire to answer a question with a video, or in fact if you’re just looking for an easy way to record and upload video from your webcam or smartphone, you might to try out a new, free video service called keek. It’s probably best described as the video equivalent of Twitter- you can sign up for a free account and then use either your smartphone or your webcam to record and upload short (up to 35 second) video clips to share with your friends, or embed on your blog. It’s an interesting idea, and whilst I have some reservations that 35 seconds is not very long at all,  I’m watching with interest to see if it catches on.
