Help comms charity I CAN spread the word

Summer childrenI CAN is the children’s communication charity. Over one million children in the UK today have a long-term communication difficulty.  Children with communication difficulties might find it hard to express themselves, understand words, speak in sentences and understand simple instructions. Daily life for these children can be distressing and frustrating. They can struggle to read, learn, join in, make friends and achieve. I CAN are the experts in helping children with communication difficulties. If we find and help these children and their families, we can unlock their potential.

Every child needs to develop good communication skills. These are vital for a child to express their needs and wants, to make friends, to learn at school and to achieve their potential. Parents are a child’s first teacher and the ongoing interaction between parent and child from bump onwards is key to developing these vital communication skills.

Parents tell us that it is hard to find information on developing children’s communication and we know that often the best source of advice for parents comes from friends and other parents. This is where Britmums bloggers would be fantastic in helping to spread the word about I CAN on your blogs. It would be great to work with Britmums bloggers to spread the word about how important it is to develop children’s communication skills and detail what help there is for children who may struggle and their families.

I CAN would really like to work with some BritMums parent bloggers.

We have a range of resources for parents that we would love to share with bloggers and get their thoughts and reviews – this would be a fantastic opportunity for bloggers to share their own experiences of supporting their child’s communication development

We have I CAN experts, speech and language therapists and experienced teachers, that can answer Q&As or offer advice and information on typical ages and stages of development

We can provide interesting research and stats that can act as talking points on parent blogs

We have factsheets on different topics e.g. ‘how to communicate with children during mealtimes’ or ‘how best to communicate during the summer holidays’ that parent bloggers may find useful for posts

We have some free/downloadable resources available for parents to use available at the I CAN bookshop or on Talking Point, the website dedicated to children’s speech, language and communication.

Our ‘helpline’ is a vital resource for worried parents, grandparents and professionals to contact if they’re worried about any aspect of talking, listening and understanding in children up to 19. It’s free for parents or practitioners to arrange a phone call or email from an I CAN Speech and Language Therapist. It would be great to find a way to promote this to your parent bloggers’ readers www.ican.org.uk/help

If anyone is interested in talking to I CAN directly about featuring them on your blog, please contact them on @icancharity or email [email protected]
