Health Round-up: Boobs, smiles and moustaches

health round upWe all know that breastfeeding has many health benefits for both mother and child, but would you want to be paid for doing it? The announcement of research to boost breastfeeding rates in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire by giving financial incentives has had a lot of you up in arms this past month. I won’t go into it because there’s already been a lot written on this site, but do check out Sonya Cisco’s recent politics round-up that summarises some of the great posts on this issue. You can also watch BritMums’ Jennifer Howze giving her opinion on ‘bribes for breastfeeding’ on Sky News and John Adams writes about it from a dad’s perspective.

Elsewhere, Oral B ran a Love Your Gums challenge, which lots of you got involved with. I particularly enjoyed this post about how even tooth fairies love Oral-B Pro-Expert Premium Gum toothpaste by Confessions of a Slummy Mummy.

Mel from The Diary of a Jewellery Lover has written about her friend’s son who has cerebral palsy. He has been accepted by a US children’s hospital to have an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which could help him walk. As you can imagine though, such treatment doesn’t come cheap so Mel is asking people to donate if they can to help Noah walk.

Tired Mummy of Two writes about her thoughts on the NHS following a few health scares this year (thankfully non-serious) and how life is too short and should be for the living. I couldn’t agree with that sentiment more.

Twins, Tiaras and Tantrums seems to be going through a phase of getting those dreaded school health letters at the moment. You know the ones, with ‘chickenpox‘ and ‘head lice‘ emblazoned across them. But it’s great to read her light hearted posts on the both subjects. I got my first school letter about head lice doing the rounds at school fairly recently and I admit it threw me into a slight panic. Thankfully Sophia is free of them (although I am regularly checking!), but it makes me scratch just thinking about it!

There’s some sage advice on Berice Baby where Lotte has written some advice on what to do when your child has a high fever. Meanwhile, Laura at The Life and Times of the Working Mum has been nursing her little boy after a bout of sickness. It’s never nice to see your child have a sick day – hope Leo’s feeling better now Laura!

And finally, it’s Mo time for Tom (AKA Diary of the Dad). He has joined thousands of other men in downing razors for the month of ‘Movember’ and to raise money to fight prostate and testicular cancer and mental health. He’s one of a team of dad bloggers who are taking part, so head over to their team fundraising page to show your support.

I was disappointed to find that it wasn't necessarily Tired Mummy of Two's thoughts on the NHS as it was a sponsored post :-/
