Jessica Soothill, from Mummy of boy girl twins loves blogging but finding time to fit it in whilst raising a young family is often exhausting. Here she shares with BritMums her reasons on why she keeps the blogging up.
The ironing pile is exceptionally high. The washing up needs doing and there are bills that need paying online. Why, therefore, am I sitting down to write yet another blog post? Why am I spending so much of my ‘free time’ blogging – instead of actually getting on with real jobs and chores?
For me, being a parent blogger is exciting and gratifying, but by no means easy. Finding an hour, here and there (around the family) to write material and update my blog, can be challenging.
Being a stay-at-home-Mum to two-year-old twins means that ‘time’ is not something that I have a lot of these days. The children’s nap time and their bedtime are my main windows of opportunity. Because there is no way I can do it when they are around. Not a chance. It isn’t all that helpful having little fingers typing at the keyboard, nor can I focus and concentrate when they need juice, snacks and nappy changes. So it’s a case of squeezing blogging in here and there around housework, cooking, relaxing and spending time with my other half.
So why bother blogging?
I started it as a way of recording family memories, and to share my experiences. Always having had a passion for writing, this was a quick, easy and free way of starting. Anyone can set up a blog and within half an hour (or so) you are away. And it can be extremely addictive. And very exhilarating. I, for one, now love it. It is such a passionate new hobby of mine. And I’ve found that being involved within the blogging community has been immensely supportive. I’ve made so many new friends.
And I can’t seem to stop now. When you see something you’ve created out of nothing developing and growing, it all feels rather exciting.
I could blog full time, if time (and life) permitted. I could sit down in the morning at my desk in the kitchen, with a cup of tea, and write all day and night. I haven’t suffered with writer’s block yet – in fact, quite the opposite! There just aren’t enough hours in the day.
However…if this was the case, I mean if I didn’t have my family around me, yanking at my ankles all day and demanding my attention – then quite frankly I’d have no material to blog about! Who would be there to provide me with all of those stories and funny anecdotes, and drive me to feel the need to share it all? And so for now, it’s on with the busy parent job, and it’s stealing time to write about it when they are all (finally) asleep.
I’m Jess, a former HR Manager turned stay at home Mum to two-year-old boy and girl twins Harry and Lottie. Who took a lot of hard work and many rounds of IVF to get into the world. Married to Dave, I’m from the north west but now living in rural north Wales, in the countryside. And enjoying country living. I love my home, running and fashion. When time allows! Good post. I squeeze mine in wherever I can. Just done a post about taking time for yourself. http://insidemartynsmind.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/taking-some-time-for-me.html?m=1 it is so important to do something different, even if it is just to blog, otherwise you get into a cycle of being a parent and covering your 'duties'

Great post! I do it whenever I can. I like the quiet to do it in, just me and some music so usually when everyone is asleep or at school. It's therapeutic for me :)

Lovely post! I remember those days of juggling baby/toddler on the knee and typing with one hand. Although it does get better once they start school, but I still find myself struggling to fit it all in. The outlet of blogging is absolutely wonderful for mums though and love how this community continues to grow. Stick with it, you won't regret it (spoken as a four year 'veteran')!
