Family Days Out Round-up: A summer of fun!

This summer we didn’t get the gorgeous weather we had all hoped for, struggling with high winds and rain, but it didn’t seem to stop the fun. My family and I did get the chance to jet off to Walt Disney World though which was amazing!

I know a lot of people use the days out round-up for inspiration for days out with their own families or to plan any UK breaks so for this one I am organising the posts by their destinations.

South West

I am starting our visit to the South West with a trip to the National Marine Aquarium from Mummy Fever. It is somewhere we love to visit ourselves and it highlights the diversity of wildlife in our local waters. Moving perfectly on from this, The Little Pip went on a Rockpool Ramble at Polzeath, Hodepodge Days did the same at Woolacombe and share there tips on how to get the best out of a day out rockpooling with the family and Practically Perfect Mums shares the best way to explore Dartmoor with kids.

A great way of exploring an area is using a Treasure Trail and Hodgepodge used one to explore Bude and we enjoyed a family trail around Wells in Somerset.

One summer activity I really want to see is the Bristol Balloon Fiesta, but sadly it clashed with our holiday, but Practically Perfect Mums looks like they all had an amazing time. Close by Cardiff Mummy Says headed to the stunning Dyrham Park. and Tantrums to Smiles got up close to stunning animals at a Wildlife Rangers event at WWT Slimbridge.

I finally got to do two summer activities that have been on my to-do list for what feels like forever, with visits to Dorset County Show and the Great Dorset Steam Fair and the kids got to indulge in their love of steam trains with a visit to Swanage Railway.

South East

London is always a popular destination to visit with kids and days out on the river Thames were popular this year. Juggling on Rollerskates enjoyed a day out with a difference with a London Duck Tour and we travelled further along the river to Greenwich aboard a Thames Clipper, getting to watch the Doggets Coat and Badge race from the wheel house.

Also in London were Emily and Indiana who celebrated a very special birthday London Aquarium, Momma Mack headed to the outskirts to visit Chessington World of Adventures.

Laura Summers has fans of steam engines and in particular Thomas the Tank Engine and enjoyed a Day Out with Thomas on the Watercress Line  and close by we enjoyed the Great Brick Safari at Marwell Zoo. My Travel Monkey enjoyed a family day at Wakehurst in West Sussex, whilst A Strong Coffee got a taste of history at a jousting tournament at Blenheim Palace.

Little Miss Eden Rose got a taste of history at Leeds Castle and taught their kids where some of their food comes from on a day out strawberry picking in Essex, Emily and Indiana managed to spot the Gruffalo at Bedgebury Pinetum. and Life Love and Dirty Dishes found dinosaurs at BlackGang Chine on the Isle of Wight.

Central England

Mazes fill me with dread. It doesn’t matter how easy they look, my kids always get me lost and we actually thought we would be shut in a park this summer as we couldn’t find our way out. Thankfully Over 40 Mum to One was more successful in negotiating the Maize Maze at the National Forest Adventure Farm

Did you know that Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens is the largest privately owned zoological collections in the UK and Someone’s Mum payed a visit over the summer holidays. The Mum Diaries chose to explore her local area and visited Wicksteed Park and Hamerton Zoo Park Babies and Beauty loved Sundown Adventureland, Messy Blog headed to Ferry Meadows and Our Bucket List lives checked our Sacrewell Heritage Farm which all looked like fun days out for younger families.

A great theme park for kids of all ages is Drayton Manor as they have Thomasland for the little ones and thrill rides for teens and Plutonium Sox looks like they had lots of fun.

Kids love a bit of history and Warwick Castle is, in my opinion, is one of the best castles in this country and Fashion Mommy had fun there with her family.

We are big fans National Trust days out and The Ladybirds Adventures headed to Penrhyn Castle near Bangor and have some top tips for visiting Anglesey. Photalife took some amazing photos over at Welsh Family Zoo where his daughter got up close and personal to a Lemur.

In South Wales Cardiff Mummy Says took her kids for some outdoor adventures at Bute Park and Family Travel Times enjoyed a day out at Folly Farm Adventure Farm in Pembrokeshire and Side Street Style enjoyed a day out at the beach at Llantwit Major.

North West

We visited the Lake District in the holidays and fell in love with the scenery. We enjoyed a visit to Tarn Hows but sadly our day was a lot wetter than Elizabeth’s Kitchen Diary so I am sharing her post instead and how I wish I had found Grizedale Forest Park, it looks like so much fun. Also visiting the Lake District was Yorkshire Wonders who enjoyed a visit to Lowther Castle. and Lakes Single Mum enjoyed sailing at Ullswater and Glenridding.

One Frazzled Mum enjoyed a staycation in Blackpool and enjoyed visits to Blackpool Tower, Madam Tussauds, the Sea Life Centre and Sandcastle Waterpark and Hip2Trek enjoyed trekking through tunnels and crags in the Yorkshire Dales.

Slightly further south, Our Fairytale Adventure explored Cheshire with visits to Tatton Park and Chester Zoo. and Wandermust Family enjoyed a visit to Chatsworth House.

North East

We are back to mazes again as Kiddie Holidays tried their hand, and got lost in the York Maze. North East Family Fun share their tips on how to enjoy at day out at Kynren 2017 at Bishop Aukland. and My Boys Club enjoyed an interactive trail at the Woodhorn Museum in Northumberland.

Elizabeth’s Kitchen Diary went Treasure Hunting at St Ninian’s Beach on the Shetland Isles, which is is the largest active shell-sand tombolo in Britain and it looks stunning, Susan K Mann unlocked Glasgow with a Scotrail days out pass and then headed to Clyde for the Big Stampede in Hamilton.
