Egg-citing news! The launch of the Cadbury’s crème egg café

Cadbury’s crème egg has its own café and our reporter has gone all gooey over it. Tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale but Suzanne Baum – one of the lucky few to preview the café before it opened to the public – had a cracking time!

Cadbury’s is used to creating a recipe for success and there is no exception to its latest venture in the heart of Soho. However, the pop-up Cadbury crème egg café is going to cause a sticky mess (for those unable to gain entry), as I’m afraid to say it offers a mouth-watering creation and if you miss out on a bite of the action you’ll be cream with envy!  Although tickets have sold out-there are walk in opportunities for the lucky few so grab them while you can.

In the words of my two teenage sons-who unsurprisingly needed no cajoling to accompany me-the café is “sick”. For those of you unaccustomed to teen talk, it means a mixture of cool and amazing- and not sick as in vomit-although eat too much off the menu and you could be throwing up! After all one crème egg is sickly enough so a café dedicated to the stuff-surely that’s going to have many a customer heading to the toilets?

Well, from my experience, that wasn’t the case but only time will tell. Make sure to visit on an empty stomach though as after eating one chocolate egg toastie and a few mouthfuls of egg and soldiers I’d had enough. Admittedly I had already helped myself to two chocolate crème eggs that appeared through a shoot on the ground floor prior to attacking the menu so perhaps avoid these if you possibly can!

Although quite small, the three-level building has a cosy feeling to it and if you can stomach climbing to the top level you will discover a ball pool which is a rather bizarre concept! However, it does add an element of fun to the café and after gorging myself silly it felt quite nice to float amongst the balls – in time I’m sure you’ll find many a lost mobile phone and some crème eggs among them.

Easter may still be a few weeks away but friends- please don’t feel it necessary this year to buy me a chocolate egg. In fact, for now at least, I never want to set eyes on one again-I’m not yolking!

However, if I’ve whet your appetite, it’s definitely worth shelling out for this eating experience…just be sure to egg on the staff to let you in!

The Cadbury crème egg cafe is situated at 26 Greek Street, Soho and is open from 22 January until 6 March. Opening hours are Friday 5pm-9pm and 2pm-6pm on Saturday and Sundays. Tickets sold out instantly, but Cadbury has said there’s limited room for walk-ins each day
